Music Production on Linux
Discussion
Apparently it's trendy these days to master stuff to be really loud. All the big labels are at it - trying to outdo each other and make the loudest record while their artists try to own the most bling and the car with the biggest wheels. Personally I think it sounds crap and many of the mastering studios are starting to get really tired of being asked by record companies to do it this way when they know they could create something really special with great dynamic range... but I suppose the record companies want something that causes as much irritation to the grey-tops as possible when it's being blasted out of some chav's mobile phone on the train.

Have a look at http://jacklab.org/ it's a full DAW suite distro based on openSUSE Linux. It's really rather quite good.
