Hi all,

I have a small but sweet collection of vintage Gibsons, Gretsches and a couple of Fenders. Anyone else collect?

I used to have quite a few axes but sold loads a few years ago.

I kept a 1978 Les Paul Custom, and a 1987 US Strat from the "return to handmade" era. I also have an offer on a really early Gordon Smith, the serial no is like 000000031 or something. It has threee humbuckers as well so it really looks the part. Best Nut Ive ever seen as well, hand finished.
Recently I bought a Washburn that has a nice inlaid celtic cross, it's all black/black hardware and has EMG 81/85's a la Zakk Wylde. It plays and looks great. I have it strung with "not even slinkys" and sometimes Drop D it.

I wouldn't call them vintage (well perhaps the Fender is), but i have a nice collection of guitars currently taking over the upper floor of my humble abode -

Fender Strat USA
Charvel 650xl
Peavey Vandenberg
Jackson Rhandy Rhodes thru neck
Yamaha RGX-A2
Aria Pro Acoustic Guitar (forget the model)
Raimundo Classical Guitar
A very very very old Kay Electric Guitar - my very first one in fact
ESP Bass Guitar (forget the model)

And i fully intend to add a Gibson Les Paul (has to be translucent blue!) to the above list some time this year, then i can die a happy and contented man smile

Got a fairly nice Gibson 335 I think its 1978. Not quite vintage, but still not bad.

I used to have a 1968 Gretch semi-acoustic bass, cherry red, but sold it on. What an idiot...

I'm never sure what "vintage" means any more. For me, it's pre-1965....

Nearest thing to vintage in my collection is a 50s Hofner President archtop. (The earlier version with a spruce top instead of plywood).

Like this one, only with the later style bridge and no piping on the pickguard.

Bloody hell!

My first amp, and still the one I use, is a 50W solid state Kay.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Kendrick or a Mesa Boogie but it's loud, and my Korg AX has lots of good amp / cab effects.

This kind of depends how you define "vintage" and "collect". I'm not sure I'd call my motley assortment a collection as such but over the years I've aquired quite a few guitars. All of them mean something to me, and one or two of them are I think quite interesting if not vintage in the strict sense of the term. I've got a 1976 CSL /Ibanez Les Paul Custom (I think amongst the best of the Japanese copies from the heyday of the "lawsuit" guitars - I've certainly seen/played quite a few '70s Gibsons which were nowhere near as nice), a 1984/5 (last year of production at the old Fullerton plant) Telecaster (and the Super Champ amplifier I bought at the same time!), and one of the infamous mid '90s Japanese '60s Stratocasters in a very fetching red/amber "Fotoflame" sunburst. I used to have a late '80s re-issue Gibson Firebird which I bought on a whim(!) because it just looked so damned cool but that had to go because I couldn't live with the way the peghead dived like a U-Boat every time I took my hand away from the neck!

Less interesting (but still fun!) stuff includes an Epiphone "Dot Studio" 335-a-like, a PRS SE single cut Soapbar (which is actually a Damn Fine Guitar and I've got no idea how they do it for the money even with Korean production costs), and the trusty Yamaha Pacifica 112 "Bastardcaster" which sits around the office ready for instant action and started both my sons off!

Things I aspire to include a properly old Telecaster (realistically I may have to settle for a Custom Shop "Nocaster" reissue) a properly old Gibson Les Paul or SG Special/Junior (got to love those no-nonsense slabby bodies, chunky necks, and P90 pickups!), and a properly old Gibson 335 (like the Tele I may have to settle for a re-issue!) - other than that I'm a bit of a sucker for slightly obscure and/or oddball stuff like (say) the old John Birch, Gordon Smith, Hayman, Shergold, and Burns stuff...

1935 Cromwell archtop with "f" holes. Built by Gibson as a budget range. This was my late father's guitar which he bought brand new, including the hard case, for £5.00 in a closing down sale. It still plays beautifully and has a fabulous tone.

I'm not really a collector but I also have a solid top semi Ibanez electric guitar which I think dates from the mid to late seventies. It was part of their hand-crafted range.

I've got a vintage martin Uke which my dad plays, it's a 1930's one but not Koa bodied unfortunately (about 10 times the value). I went halves on a 40/41 Gibbo ES100 archtop which is lovely to play. The same uncle has a few early Ibanez which are quite cool and a George Benson model (forget which one) which he picked up in France for about 3000 francs as the guy didn't appreciate what he was selling
