Anyone else going?

Will be interesting to see some neo-classical progressive scandinvian cello-metal!

No, but saw them at the Astoria in December. Excellent, especially if you're also a Metallica fan.

If you haven't got the latest album, Worlds Collide, yet, I'd advise you to get it and give it a few plays before you go to see them.

I'd heard of them, had a browse of their catalogue - they've had a fair number of guest vocalists. How many of them will be supporting them on the tour?

Precisely none! I wondered that as well, thinking maybe they would have one vocalist doing all the guest vocal parts, but no, they use a cello instead. However don't be put off, it works surprisingly well. See:

Don't doubt it for regular tours, but a mate saw them at Reading a couple of years back and after the second song they were joined by not one singer, but the entirity of Metallica!

Now that would have been awesome!

Unsure about the lack of guest vocalists - that seems like half of the "enjoyment" of their work.

Well that, and trying to listen to the cellos behind all the wailing guitars and thumping bass ....

What wailing guitars and thumping bass? It's ALL cello except the drums (and I admit I was sceptical until I saw them live). Hearing them do a Kirk Hammett solo pretty much note & pitch perfect on a cello is very impressive.

Yeah, as far as I'm aware it's all cellos, barring the occasional guest drummer. Recently they've started using distortion more and more (giving a more guitar 'power chord' sound)

Listening in the car to their last album, its close on impossible to distinguish between a normal bass or guitar with distortion, and a cello running distortion ...

But it does sound bloody impressive, doubly so that its cellos all the way.

Had a listen to their metallica covers last night; not so sure that works too well. But then I am stuck on "I'm not Jesus".

It is, as per usual, superb. They're one of those bands that really shouldn't work but manage to do so brilliantly

Well - a day and a half to go. Anyone else coming?

Must admit I've really got into them over the past few weeks - had a compilation of their stuff on in the car (minus some of the heavier ones to prevent me from killing anyone!) and I'm really starting to 'get' them. Can't wait...
