Been thinking with so many bands covering other artists songs, who do you reckon has done the BEST ever cover????

Recently heard stereophonics doing Sinead o' Connor's nothing compares to you, think it was off Radio 1, live lounge?? Absolutely brilliant...

But also love Johnny Cash covering Hurt by nine inch nails........

Although Sinead O'Connors version is a cover of Prince (aka the little purple 2@ formerly known as Prince, or whatever he's calling himself today), personally I don't think Sinead's version can be bettered.

Many Bob Dylan songs have been covered better than the original IMO (don't like Dylan's vocals) thinking 'all along the watchtower' by Hendrix, 'little wing' by Hendrix (and others), 'Knocking on Heavens Door' covered by many but IMO Guns n' Roses did it best, staying with Gn'Rs 'Live and let die' is a great version (don't like Mc Cartneys vocals either).

Faith no More do an excellent cover of Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs' and also the Commodores 'I'm Easy' and Eric Claptons 'signature' tune 'Cocaine' is a cover of a JJ Cale song.

But my vote (unless I think of/remember/hear anything better) goes to Gn'Rs for 'Knocking on Heavens Door' especially good live thumbup

I actually really love Metallica's version of Bod Segers "Turn the Page"

And the video really tells a superbly tragic story...

I think as covers go that one is pretty darn good.

three from me:

Johnny Cash covering Hurt by NIN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go

Leona Lewis covering Run, by Snow Patrol

I adore this song, got bored of it, she's totally made it her own and I love it again.

Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

Again, took a good song and just totally made it his own. Awesome. His version of Tainted Love is also brilliant.

Queen of Japan's interpretation of Kiss's "I Was Made For Loving You".

With the female vocalist it has a lesbian vibe - a very sexy song.

Also, it is great with the double tracked vocals towards the end.

johnny Cash - Hurt. The original was amazing but the cover was better. Not many covers do that

Also Jose Gonzalez Heartbeats was better than the Knife original.

Best cover ever? Blimey, thats a tough one.

However I think you'll find that this one is almost certainly the worst by far!

My mistake, for some reason I thought it was a Dylan song. redface

But had Dylan performed it, it would have been crap and Hendrix's version would still have been better..... wink

Nothing Compares 2 U was originally written by prince for one of his (many) offshoot bands, the Family. The original by them is definitely better than Sineads.

yes love that one, best thing on first Garage Inc CD. My favourite cover: Like a Prayer - H20. Also any cover by Me First & The Gimme Gimme's is usually better than the original.
