A few weeks ago, I was watching something something I'd recorded off the TV three or four years ago.... including the advert breaks.

In one of the breaks, the commercial for "Wanadoo Broadband" was shown - you may remember the one that had an instrumental adaptation of David Bowie's "Heroes"

I loved the track at the time, and remember googling to find out what it was, only to discover that it was a specially commissioned track, and not commercially available.

Damn.

On watching the ad again, I rekindled my search, and found out the composer of the track - Nathan Larson. I found out that the track is *still* unavailable commercially, so I sent a speculative email to Nathan's company to enquire if it was possible to purchase the track..... and got a genuienly friendly reply a day later with a high quality MP3 of the track attached.

What a top bloke.

A day or so later, I bought his album..... not sure about it yet... but will give it time!

Anyway... I just thought I'd sing Nathan's praises for helping me and my eclectic music collection!

Hey there Meeja.

Any chance you could send me the Heroes MP3 track by Nathan Larson? He's a top fella and has sent me a very short version of Heroes, as the full version was deleted.

if you have the full version please send it my way. I currently listen to it via youtube (wanadoo advert), but i REALLY want the original to put on my MP3 player.

Any chance you could help me out mate?

Hi Sunny,

I'd have to have a good look around, as I was sent the track a long time (and a couple of PC's ago)

The version I was sent was 320kbps MP3, and was just over one minute in duration. (The advert version was thirty seconds)

Is this any different from the track you have been sent?

Hey meeja, thanks for replying mate.

The version i was sent is 1 minute long, so it looks like we both got the same version.

Shame Nathan didnt make a full version for the public, because the track is sublime. Oh well, thank for your efforts anyway mate.

To be honest, as the track was written specifically for the advert, I doubt that a version longer than 1 minute ever existed.

Commercials are usually made to set lengths - usually in ten second segments (10s, 20s, 30s, 40s etc etc) with 60 seconds usually being the longest - except when an advertiser goes for broke and buys an entire break and runs a commercial three minutes long (Peugeot 406? Pepsi with Madonna's "Like a Prayer"?) so music written specifically for a commercial is generally made one minute long, with shorter edits available for shorter versions of an advert.

What I am saying is that the one minute version you have is probably the longest and highest quality that exists!
