A bit soppy perhaps but I heard a piece of music today which always makes me stop and think.

It was "Your song" by Elton John, it was playing when my now ex-wife and I entered the delivery suite awaiting the birth of our son. Everytime I hear it I stop and think and really listen to the words. Incidentally, "Wild Wood" by Paul Weller was playing when my little chief decided to make his appearance to the world. Sometimes hearing these two pieces of music has me a bit sniffly.

So, what piece of music means a lot to you?

Generally speaking, anything by Sigur Ros has the ability to 'get me going', as it were. However, I also have a certain emotional attachment to 'All I Need' by Air.

Daniel by Elton John and Where is the Love by the Black Eyed Peas

Not my kind of music but they were played at the funeral of a friend who died in a road accident aged 14.

There's not many singles in particular, but a few film soundtracks. "Evey Reborn" by Dario Marianelli, from the V for Vendetta score, is one example (seems to be used a lot on Top Gear for various epic backdrop music).

Wishbone Ash - Everybody Needs a Friend. The vocals are amazing

Kirsty McColl - As Long as You Hold Me

Evanescence - Good Enough. The intro to that song is just sheer musical bliss
