Will playing the PS3 do anything to improve my kids real guitar playing?

Not really mate, it'll help hand eye coordination but nothing else. Best thing to help guitar playing is to play guitar and get some lessons.

It's a good game but it's nothing like playing an actual guitar.

In fact all the guitarists I know find the game a particular struggle for that reason.

I got it for xmas & it's great. I find it much easier to play songs I don't already know on a "real guitar" though.

My dad & uncle got booed off stage every time they did it. They are spectacularly crap guitar players though smile

No.

Sorry.

A PS3 has no strings for a start, it's just a plastic box

As said earlier - has no similarity to playing guitar, and so will not assist in real playing in any way.

Good fun though

Thanks.

I'll put more effort into getting them to practice.

It's good fun and whilst most of the time it gives you an idea for the hand eye coordination it's nothing compared to the real thing. It is good for getting the strumming hand to play in time with the fretting hand so I can't see any real harm in letting them do the game and the real thing.

I just got Guitar hero 3 for my XBOX 360 and i play the guitar as well. For some strange reason i was plowing through them all not feeling particularly excited or getting into it until Stevie Ray Vaughan's 'Pride and Joy' came on,it just sounded so damn good compared to the rest of them i actually felt i was playing it?Cranked tv up,palms started sweating slightly etc,not something i should probably admit on a forum as its so fecking sad but after that i started to enjoy the game more and more!

Agreed - the more you love the track the better the game is.

it'll do plenty of good for timing and rhythm - funnily enough the bit that most bedroom guitarists suck at!

I find the timing aspect of the game the most problematic, you usually have to hit the not slightly before the track in order to get the point (even after calibrating the game for my TV).

I don't find it any different than playing in real time. What seems counter intuitive to me is that on the easier settings you are not following the song as you would be if you are playing a guitar. More like playing drums and bass in that respect.

Have Owned All Of The Games & For Some Reason Find Them Very Hard To Play On Easy. All Of My Guitar Playing Friends Have Noticed This Because Each Strum ON The Plastic Guitar Is Not Relative To About 2,3 sometimes 4 Note On The Real Thing Anyone Else Found This?

No. Absolutely not. It's incredibly unrealistic; I tried to play a RATM song on bass (a song I can play note for note), and I was absolutely useless on it.
