Andsnes at his best playing the favourite movement from my favourite piano concerto. Just sheer class.

And Stephen Hough "warming up" eek

Even as a guitar player, I love listening to a well played Steinway. Thiboudet, Ashkenazy, and Lang Lang are others I love to listen to.

Care to offer others examples of great piano and pianistas?

Seeing as we've got down as low as Elton John in only four posts, i'll mention Bruce Hornsby. Forget the studio stuff, playing live he's excellent.

I'll mention Andre Previn too, just to raise the talent to more than x-factor level.

What a ridiculous statement to say about Elton John, you may not like his music but there is no denying his talent. Although admittedly he hasn't really produced anything other than crap since the 1970's.

Stephen Hough - Git!

I play piano.

Using a motoring analogy, his playing would be a Ferrari, whereas mine would be an old 1970s kiddies' pedal car.

With a wheel missing.

And possibly broken steering.

I'm a huge elton john fan. He's no piano genius though, just a good player.
