Great Bands You Don't 'Get'
Discussion
For me the biggest has to be Pink Floyd. Pleasant enough music, nice songs etc why so popular and why so much acclaim. Often touted as one of the best bands in history and as having some of the best songs.
Other ones are U2 and Oasis. Not saying I don't like their music, I just don't get why people rave about them and why they are so popular.

Radiohead. 'OK Computer' regularly appears in the top album ever lists, and I've given it a few listens, but I actively dislike it, not even neutral...
'OK Computer' I bought it when it came out and was a bit none plused by it on the first couple of listening, but then I don't know what happened but I think its fabulous and still do ten years on, music is so emotive , I find my music taste grows by the week,(Jazz,techno,70's prog rock, punk, alternative, world, classical, etc)but there are still bands I can't abide, Oasis and a certain 'ska' band (don't worry am not going there again)gbbird said:
The Beatles - never really got into them. People say i do not know what i am missing, so i really should give them another go
+1, in my teens I even tried to like them when all of my mates were digging through their parents record collections for old classics, I loved all of the Who, Rolling Stones stuff I came acrossetc. but could never 'get into' the beatles. This doesn't stop the disbelief from most lovers of beatles music, who make it seem like you almost have to like the beatles or else you're just don't know what good music is!S7Paul said:
U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police & Coldplay are the first ones that spring to mind.
I'm with you on the Peppers and Coldplay. Especially Coldplay.I think with Coldplay, all the critics had been brainwashed by pap-pop; mindless sh!te with no direction, simple tunes, and the preference of image over talent. Then....along comes a group who play instruments and write their own tunes!!! Shock!!!
No matter that the playing is average and the songs are dreary, it's like "Real Music, Dude!!!".
Yea.
Right.

I think that 'The Bends' and 'Pablo Honey' would have sold more copies and been rated more highly had Radiohead been more famous at the time. As many great bands prove time and time again, it's not the seminal album that sells, it's the follow up.
The Beatles & their members, 99% of the stuff they did was shite bar 1 or 2 tracks that were OK. Don't understand why anyone would still care.
I didn't really care for Pink Floyd until I was given a copy of The Delicate Sound Of Thunder on Laserdisc (remember them?) and was captivated, been an obsessed fan ever since, it is difficult to explain why I think they're so good so I can appreciate why they'd not be for everyone.
