Ideally for the Mac..

Bought myself an electric guitar as I've always wanted to play (abuse) a guitar. Now I'm in the field to learn properly to play the thing. Tracks of Smoke on the Water and House of the Rising Sun are now starting to bore me so I'm looking to learn the basics and move on from there.

Any recommendations for Mac software for learning from the PH community would be appreciated. If I must I've also got access to the devils machine (a Windows laptop) if that helps.

I like Blues and Rock music if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for guidance
(Waiting with guitar in hand and credit card)..

join TESCO DVD rental or whoever.

Get the Lick Library DVDs.

Sorted.

This would have saved me fourteen years of grief.

I've never used any Apple Machine Thingys (Pfffft wink) so therefore I wouldn't have a clue where to start wth them.

Your "Devil Machine" however...

I have used a program for many years called Power Tab Editor. I am unable to raving on about it. Its bloody brilliant! Perfect for what you have in mind.

There is a website that you can download tabs for this program called Ultimate-Guitar. Its indespensible. They have a tab for every song you could ever possibly want to learn. Although they are all posted by users, Most are spot on.

Heres a Clicky for where you can download Power Tab Editor V1.7

Make sure you come back and tell us how you get on. Any problems just give us a shout! wobble

The problem with guitar tab is it just tells you what notes to play. With an expressive instrument like the guitar it's more how you play it.

If you can actually watch someone playing the piece you are learning then the whole learning process is so much easier. Trust me on this.

At the easier end of the Lick Library series;

Acoustic rock volumes 1-4 are a nice mix of songs.
Stereophonics and Clash could be for a first year player
The Rolling Stones is fantastic if you are prepared to retune.
The classic riffs is a good starter as well.

Once you get these the the next step is AC/DC then your all the way.

well Tescos have duly delivered the first of my choices - the first in the Learning Guitar M channel series. I'm two episodes in and already I want to punch that annoying woman who laughs at nothing and asks "not scripted" questions.

As for the bloke and his multitude of pedals. Who bloody cares - how about playing some bloody chords. I'll play episode three tomorrow...

Got a 220V power supply for my Line 6 Pod XT today... happy man, I can start to make some noise. smile
