Im first going to have to admit that the bulk of my music gets played from my PC/iRiver or in the car.
- However, i am looking at geting some slightly nicer speakers, although without spending too much!
- Currently i have a set of AntecLansing 2100's. Ie, midrange 2.1 computer speakers that are now three years old.

I've been looking at other options, such varous moniter speakers around the £50 mark, richersounds.com etc, and dreaming about some slick black floor standing units.
- I release that i'll then also need and amp to power them.
- But espically if in go down the second hand route, i can help but feel something like this would kick my dads poncy soundsticks into touch?

Eather that if he does decided to replace the celestion's in our living room i could to take them of his hands!!

Am i barking up the wrong tree? Any thoughts?
- Maybe i should just carry on not spending any money and dreaming of lotus sevens.

Have a look at castle - hand built in the UK the compacts are a reasonable price - and bloody good, fill in nicely with my Stirlings in the lounge.

I have two sets of Kef Coda5's from richer one in my office, one in the bedroom pretty good - but the castles have them beat hollow.

SImes.

B&W DM601, small speakers on a budget with clout. Bi-wireable too.

Might be worth looking at some active monitors, the type they use in studio's - you'll get something pretty decent for £200 without the added space/hassle of needing an amp.

I bought the little Bush bookshelf speakers from Richer Sounds for the office, cost about a tenner.

Didn't expect them to be great, but was surprised. They're a fairly weighty speaker for their size, and sound remarkably good, if occasionally a little 'boxy', particularly with an MP3 or PC source. I've got an old Trio amp I found (!) in a house I was renting years ago, this performs fine.

A 2nd hand NAD 310 (amplifier) off ebay should be pretty cheap, and they are also quite good for the price. Between the two you'll get a reasonable, balanced system that sounds natural, and surprisingly good, considering they cost next to nack all.

Yeah, thats the sort of thing.
- Powered moniters might indeed be an option.
- Ill look at some more idea at work tomorrow!

The other option would be a proper 2.1 system (rather than 2.1 computer speakers) so i dont know what there might be there?
- Again, the budget would be lurking in the sub £100 catagory i guess, but im open to suggestions and second hand oferings. Just trying to get a feel of what im looking for!!

If you're playing through the PC then this might be an option:

I've heard good things about those speakers, but not actually heard them personally.
