I went to see Simple Minds at Wembley when I was maybe 14. Went down on the train with a few friends of the same age. I'm pretty sure this was one of my first concerts without 'supervision'. After this I went to gigs near enough every week with my younger sister.

Tonight my 13 year old son has gone to The Junction in Cambridge to see Hadouken with a girl!!

I'm quite jealous.

I haven't been to an independent gig for years, just a few festivals with kids mostly of late.

My first proper concert, if you don't count Frank Ifield, was T-Rex at the De Montfort Hall, Leicester. Too long ago to remember the year.
The last one was The Scissor Sisters at the 02 Arena.
The most memorable was Bruce Springsteen, Tunnel of Love tour I think it was called, at Hillsborough Football ground.

The Beatles in Sydney Australia in 1964, it was Ringo's first concert of the tour after recovering from tonsilitis, from memory Sounds Incorporated were also part of that tour.

Followed rather closely by the Stones in 1965 originally booked as the support act for Roy Orbison.

First concert I ever went to was Duran Duran at the Manchester Apollo. thumbup

Most recent one I went to was The Foo Fighter at Manchester Arena, absolutely awesome! And I was right at the front in the mosh pit while all my mates stayed at the back, I came out at the end of the gig soaking wet, well worth the effort (and mild crushing) though. smile

I love going to concerts but being in the arse end of nowhere means I tend to miss out nowadays. frown

First gig was GNR, Faith No More and Soundgarden at Wembley Stadium in '92.

On the subject of catching things thrown from the stage, I caught one of Dimebag's guitar picks that he threw out at the last ever UK Pantera gig, I would wager that's worth a few bob now.

Genesis at Wembley stadium in about 1986 or 87. They were touring Invisible touch anyway.

First "small venue" gig I went to was Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick at The Thekla in Bristol in 1988, just after I stared university. Although Mary Coughlan at the Mean Fiddler in Harlseden might have been earlier the same year.

If you don't count Wizzard in late 1973, the first 'real' one was Hawkwind in early 1975 (still one of the best ever).

My parents decided I was too young for that one (I was 12) so I had to wait for the Zoo TV tour a few years later (also at the SECC) - that was my first concert without parents/older cousins tagging along to supervise.

Strangely enough, that was the only Jackson gig I saw.. I didnt especially want to see him, but my younger cousin was mad about him, and as she was coming down a long way from up north, I agreed to go with her. Actually wasn't a half bad gig as it turned out (Wembley Stadium).

Not sure what my 1st was.. Probably numerous Cliff/Shads concerts that I was dragged to often as a young lad (long story, don't ask biggrin ). Besides that, I do remember seeing Stevie Wonder (Wembley Arena) in 87 I think it was.. I had barely heard of the guy then, but I remember being very impressed, and recall the gig quite well even now.

I had tickets to see Metallica when I was 15 (And Justice For All tour) but my Dad said I couldn't go as I would be taking drugs ('cos that's what happens at pop concerts you know!).

So in the end it was to see Genesis on their 'We Can't Dance' tour in 92.

The first gig i went to was the Levellers at the BIC in Bournemouth.

Last gig i went too was the Young Knives at the Southsea pyramids.

Also been to Glastonbury 3 times, and seen other bands play live.

The Herbaliser, Therapy?, Jamie T, Coldcut, DJ Vadim & Prime Cuts, Mr Scruff, i am sure there are some others, just cant quite think of them at the moment.

You missed Metallica at their absolute peak and they're still not half bad live now but if you watch the Seattle gig on Live Shit Binge & Purge from that tour you will see what I mean!

How big does it have to be to count as the first? Loads of 'up and coming' bands at rock clubs, but I suppose first 'well known' band was Tigertailz at a venue that I think was called the Tivoli (IIRC) in North Wales.
