Who here writes music?

Who's actively involved in writing songs/music? Whether it's open mic nights or Wembley....

A fair number I should immagine given the quantity of musicians on here

I've played the guitar in a duo and a couple of original bands and have the occasional go at home recording my own (instrumental) stuff. Haven't done much for a while though.

I do a little bit of writing, mostly kids stuff. Nothing published or publicly performed or anything.

I do - my old band played the talent stage at T in the Park a few years ago. Now I tend to write more for me but have recently been plotting a band again...

I used to write a lot of ambient-space music, very long instrumental tracks, all electronic, since getting married and finding a proper job I don't really have the time so tend to just doodle, music really is my passion though, would love to have the free time to take it serious again.

I'm in a band called Foolish Mountain. It's my mate singing, me on acoustic guitar with drums, bass and a string quartet. I write most of the songs, and also write the parts for the string quartet. Just recorded our first album and I'm really pleased with the results - it's come out really well.

Unfortunately my friend seems to have lost interest, which is a massive shame as I'm sure we could have got somewhere with it

PH member, GetCarter, is a professional composer. PH Member, MasterH, is Liam Howlett, The Prodigy. There are many more.

Cool. I'm firmly ammateur (guitar) although my missus is a pro saxophonist.

'fraid the biggest gig I've yet done was a few hundred people in my old students union in a covers band. Most recent activity was co-writing and performning tracks for a vocalist. We did open mics in London for a few months in the spring. Facny doing something more though.....
