Opera- How long?
Discussion
Don't call me a gayer!
I have unexpectedly been invited to attend Carmen this evening, am keen to attend but had very large session last night so am dead on feet.
How long do these productions generally last? If it's lengthy I won't bother.
Sorry if in wrong section but need to make rapid decision...

Pity you couldn't go. Carmen is a great intro to opera - some well known songs and usually a very sexy soprano playing the lead.
I've seen it once and been it it once - great both times.
I've even walked past the real cigarette factory in Seville where Carmen is supposed to have worked. It's now part of Seville University.
Also worth looking up the more modern remake "Carmen Jones". Set in WW2 with an all black cast and modern English lyrics.

They vary but I seem to remember Carmen not being that long. 2hr 15 + interval I think.. maybe less. Of course it depends on the production, there's no set length.
Be thankful you're not off to see Wagner's Ring Cycle.
