Jeeeeeeesus

That is one ing broad church........

However.

John Sykes "Life-Live" Thin Lizzy solo on "Still In Love With You" ticks many boxes for me.

Also Steve Vai's "For The Love of God" at Seville Expo 1992

OK I'm going to be boring and say:
Eddie Van Halen on Michael Jacksons 'Beat It' - IMO it's better than most of his Van Halen solos boxedin

...and at the less technical end of the scale:
Kurt Kobain/Nirvana 'In Bloom' - just the most perfect 'anti solo'!

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb surely. Anyone who has been lucky enough to see this performed live will know what I mean.

plus Comfortably Numb.
Anything Jimmy Page has ever done
Kirk Hammett on Metallica - Unforgiven
Pretty much anything Ihsahn has ever played on.

I find it easier to mention guitarists than to single out particular solos.

S'funny but one of the best, ie not the most technically competent, long or self indulgent, for me is the solo on G Raffertys Baker Street. It is perfect, suits the moment and is just enough to be very powerful

Good Call, Floyds older stuff is excellent

But there are quite a few by Joe Satriani especially off the album "Flying in a blue dream"

Smashing Pumpkins - Geek USA
Smashing Pumpkins - Soma
Guns and Roses - Sweet Child of Mine - it just suits the song so well and is so well structured.
Stevie Ray Vaughan any time he goes anywhere near a guitar!

How about for frothing, rabid, guitar duelling? Hanger 18 by Megadeth. Mustaine & Friedman at their diametrical best.

More?

Tony Iommi on "Warning"
"Eruption". Corny, I know.
Muddy Waters on "She's Nineteen Years Old"
"Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee" by Nuno Bettencourt
"Eugene's Trick Bag" by Steve Vai
"I've Got Rhythm" by Martin Taylor
"Manic Depression" by Jeff Beck (on a Hendrix tribute album)
"Child In Time" by Richie Blackmore on "Deep Purple in Rock"
"Recuerdos de Alhambra" played by Simon Dinnigan
