The Gods of Random Play have just selected this little gem for my aural delictation.

I'm not a huge Stones fan, I'll admit but this has to be one of THE greatest songs of all time.

Written when he was 24/25 too, astonishing really.

Has 'Random' pleasantly suprised you with anything today?

Hi,

Being a luddite, I have no idea what you're talking about with your 'Random'. However I have a ton of music on my ipod, mostly acquired from a mate who copied tons of stuff playing in ex-pat bars in Thailand, and I love the 'shuffle' feature and thats what I have on most of the time, and it allows me to discover some great music. I think the biggest surprise for me was how much music, and how great, Nina Simone produced. By playing shuffle I get to listen to all sorts of genres, and have been surprised at how much I enjoy jazz and world music, etc.

Sympathy for the Devil though, what a tour de force. An absolutely incredible track, incredible lyrics, and dark, menacing power, it must have been awesome hearing that in the sixties, its really awesome stuff. There's no doubt that the Stones were one hell of a band at their peak.

Showing me age.

Random/Shuffle.

When your media player picks stuff to play that you'd entirely forgotten about.

One of my all time favourite songs, along with the awesome Gimme Shelter. Mick n Keith couldn't half write a tune back then.

Saw them at the Isle of Wight festival earlier in the year and despite their combined age, they were just awesome.

They did 'Sympathy' with Mick in a full length blood red coat and the whole stage bathed in eerie red flood lighting.

No 'Paint It Black' or 'Gimme Shelter' though cry

The best worst guitar solo this side of Neil Innes's on "I'm the Urban Spaceman"
