Help with MIDI please
Discussion
Scenario
I have a Roland TD27 electronic drumkit. It has a number of inputs including some for additional pads/triggers. I have already filled those with additional pads.
I want even more pads though (greedy huh?), so I have bought a trigger-to-MIDI interface. I had hoped I might be able to trigger some of the other sounds from within the Roland TD27 module this way, however I believe MIDI notes are only assigned to pads and their various different zones. So, if a sound within the module is not currently assigned to one of the zones of a pad, I cannot access it.
Roland issues a "note map" which more or less describes what I've said above.
Question
Is there a way to access sounds from within the module that are not currently assigned to a pad/zone?
It's not the end of the world if I cannot do this as I have a number of alternative sound modules but for portability I had hoped I might only need to drag the Roland around with me.
Until the last 3 years, I hadn't dabbled with MIDI since the late 1980s when it was still a fairly new technology, and as such was quite simple. Now that I have a number of other sound modules, I am triggering them from keyboards. Another question that's related to the above is, I am limited to triggering only sounds that are displayed on the front of the module? So, if I have "church orchestra" selected on my Korg TR rack, am I limited to only that sound, or can MIDI trigger other sounds from within the Korg?
I suspect not, and that to access other sounds within the unit, I'd need to send some sys-ex command or something but it'd be handy to know and would reinforce the limitation I've described with the Roland.
TIA.
