Anyone listening to the new Cure album?
Discussion
So I've never been a big Cure fan, aware of the hits like most people but haven't ever listened to an album.
I'm absolutely loving their new album. I've had it on a fair bit over the weekend and I have to say I'm a bit obsessed with it. It has this kind of euphoric, bleak, desperation to it, I know that sounds a bit of a contradiction but it's the best way I can describe it.
They've definitely acquired a new fan in me, anyone else liking it?

Watched this the other day, the 6 Music Session recorded on 31st October.
Quite enjoyed it, with some of the tracks off the new album.
A Forest sounds good too.

I've been listening to this at least once a day (played it 3 times through on release day Friday) since it was released, it's quite simply for me their best album since 1989.
As a reasonably long term fan since 1986 it's great that the band have pulled this out of the bag especially after the disappointing run of albums since Wish in 1992, apart from Bloodflowers I struggled to go back to an album after the initial release shine had worn off. Live always good but recorded medium...less so.
This one is different though and seeing them a couple of times in 2022 gave a clue that they were back on top form (seen them every tour plus most UK one offs since 1989). The current line up is really strong and I wonder how much extra Reeves Gabrels has brought to the band and Robert Smith's drive.
I guess the last few years has given Robert Smith some good material to work his song writing skills on, not necessarily good things but exactly the sort of things The Cure always excelled writing songs about.
So yes I'm a huge fan of this album, it sits alongside Disintegration, Pornography and Faith for me with Endsong certainly in my Top 10 Cure songs ever already.
Only downside will be tickets will be a nightmare to get for the next tours up to the end in 2028, roll on the next couple of albums they're finishing.

Wish was the first Cure album I owned, I bought it because I liked Friday I'm in Love.I got massively into it and it barely left my Walkman, it became my soundtrack to Summer 92.
Might have to give this new album a listen then, I watched the recent show on BBC2 and it reminded me I haven't listened to them in years.
