A Geordie legend - interesting to see two locally (Hexham) made acoustic guitars in the sale. Thought there might have been an Overwater in there somewhere, perhaps he's kept one?

Was that near Maida Vale ? If so I think I used to live near & walk past it many years ago (late 90s).

Yep that' looks like the place.......his engineer would rebuild race engines for me and I went there to drop / collect them.

The insanity was the stupid estimates put on by Christie’s and the two hour delay to the start of the auction because it was more popular than they thought it would be.

These were always going to go for a fortune.

Good day for Christie’s; they’ll have trousered over £2m of the trial

I actually have a few of those guitars, same model, same year, and same colour even. The estimates were probably twice what I would consider mine were worth, and while they are owned by Knopfler they were not any of the famously associated ones.

I particularly like the ES135,

“Acquired in 2018, Mark Knopfler tried this guitar during the recording process to get an idea of the sound and where it might fit in a particular song, yet this ES-135 never made it onto a record. From time to time, Knopfler kept this guitar in his study for home use.”

So he bought it second hand, didn’t like the sound, then basically had it kicking about at home.

Thirty seven grand! Thirty seven grand!

Exactly, that’s a grands worth, fifteen hundred on a good day. It has no history, no fantastic back story other than it was given to Mark Knopfler. Over a hundred grand? bks.
