Went through a spell of listening to Bob Harris on a Thursday
Eric Church stands out
Alan Jackson
Alison Kraus
Will Hoge
James McMurtry
Steve Earle (saw him at the Sage) with the Mastersons who I didn't enjoy
There were a few more but mind has gone blank and a few I couldn't stand.
Sunny Sweeny comes to mind

There's an incredibly rich vein to mine in the country genres.
For the younger folk the crossover artists will make you comfortable and get you started but you will almost certainly tire of them quickly and dig in to find out where it all came from.
Very early country music has Celtic roots and in the Deep South you'll find French influence in Cajun music.
Marty Stuart and The Superlatives are an absolute must and the Turnpike Troubadors are a lot of fun.
The guitarists in the genre also are often brilliant and in no particular order check out.
Bill Kirchen ( already mentioned + was in Commander Cody )
Brad Paisley ( great singer but should not be allowed to write lyrics )
Redd Volkaert
Johnny Hiland
Brent Mason
Duke Levine
John Jorgensen
Vince Gill ( sings like an angel )
Albert Lee
John 5 ( very serious country player )
Steve Morse ( as for J 5 )
Hellecasters ( includes John Jorgensen )
Big John Stannard ( RIP )
Doc Watson
Molly Tuttle
Then there's the aliens who are masters of the pedal steel and lap steel

Agree with these, especially Emmy Lou Harris and her Pancho and Lefty classic and never thought to include John Hiatt, always thought him more a sort of blues but it's country blues...
Also posted above is Albert Lee, I never thought to include him but of course he is country, having played with Emmy Lou in the earlier days, as well as being an Everly Brother for a while and a Hogans Hero and a great solo artist
Seen Albert numerous times and think he's one of the guitar greats, and a really nice guy too.

Mary Gauthier is great
Another vote for Mary. Only a recent discovery for me after a friend posted some usually rubbish content on Facebook about their favourite albums. One of them was Mercy Now from Mary Gauthier. Having never heard of her I wandered onto YouTube and the first track I heard was Falling Out Of Love. Hooked from there.offspring86 said:
I’m a big country fan, I’m fortunate enough to be over in Nashville until the new year so I’m living around it currently!
A few artists I haven’t seen mentioned:
Chris Stapleton (obviously)
Tyler Childers
Brent Cobb
Lillie Mae
Love Chris Stapleton, Eric Church's latest album is also pretty good!A few artists I haven’t seen mentioned:

Have you managed to see anyone perform out there? Its my dream holiday to visit Nashville and see either Alan Jackson or Tim Mcgraw, at the Opre!

I spent a few days in Nashville, didn't see any big names but the beauty of being able to walk into any bar at any time and see decent live music was just brilliant. Thanks. Another thread that makes me feel like a living fossil.
When I saw the title the first thing I thought of was The Carter Family!
The suggestions above tell me you are all thinking of much more modern stuff. Still, with that in mind, I would like to suggest The Carolina Chocolate Drops.

There's a good documentary on iPlayer at the moment
