Firstly I know this should probably be in the Music forum but hopefully due to the fact that a book and a luxury item has to be picked as well it should hopefully escape that pigeon hoe into more the more general interest area of the lounge.

The idea is simple. Choose 8 tracks that you would take with you if you were to be stranded on a desert island. You also get a book (the complete works of Shakespeare and the Bible [or other religious/philosophical text] are included for free) and a luxury item (which must be inanimate, be of no practical use in escaping the island or helping you communicate with the outside world).

You must also choose the track that you would save if all the others were getting washed away.

e.g.

1. Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
2. Mark Knopfler - Why Aye Man
3. Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy
4. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (Live in Berlin version)
5. System of a Down - Toxicity
6. Lynard Skynard - Simple Man
7. The Queen of the Night aria (from Die Zauberflöte) - Mozart
8. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Book: A guide to flora and fauna of the area I live
Luxury: A fishing rod (used for pleasure fishing rather than for food)

Track saved from the waves: Comfortably Numb

Feel free to discuss why etc.

Thanks.

Mods, it doesn't seem to be a very popular topic anyway so please feel free to let it die quietly in the Music forum.

Here's mine:

  1. The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
  2. Death Cab for Cutie - I will follow you in to the dark
  3. Matchbox 20 - Downfall
  4. Counting Crows - Colourblind
  5. Sunna - Power Struggle
  6. Metallica - No Leaf Clover
  7. Faithless - God is a DJ
  8. Snow Patrol - Chocolate
Book: Difficult one.. most of the books I'd happily re-read over and over are parts of trilogies/series. Might have to get back to you on that one!

Luxury: I know it's a bit of a cheat for two items but since they are useless without each other I'd say a good pen and a decent size pad of paper.

The pretense of Desert Island Discs is bks.

If you had an entire lifetime and only 8 three minute singles to listen to you'd be bored to feck with them within a week and if they were by pink floyd about 3 minutes.

Never the less...

1. The Queen is Dead - The Smiths
2. Brassneck - The Wedding Present
3. Town Called Malice - The Jam
4. Sympathy With The Devil - The Rolling Stones
5. Airbag - Radiohead
6. Subterranean Homesick Blues - Bob Dylan
7. Boogie Chillum - John Lee Hooker
8. Isobel - Bjork

Luxury item = Piano

Edit: Forgot to take a book - I've got the big Che Guevera Biography that runs to about 1million ages at home which I keep starting and then putting away, I'd take that.

Edited to add a Radio Head track instead of Mercury Rev, it's not easy picking only 8 is it?
