What was the first record you bought, and where?

Shamelessly stolen from the BBC News site on the demise of HMV. Mine? Cathy's Clown, the Everly Brothers, at NEMS in Liverpool. My first LP (album to those younger than me) was "Let there be drums" by Sandy Nelson.

I got sent in to a record shop at age 10'ish to buy Rod Stewart - 'Do ya think I'm sexy' because my dad was too embarrassed to go up to the desk and ask for it himself!

My first record for me was Joy Division - "Love will tear us apart", with Adam and the Ants - "Kings of the wild frontier" as my first album. Both bought from a small local record shop in town.

Heartbreak Hotel, Elvis, 78rpm, 1956 aged 12, no idea where I bought it from other than a local shop.

Still got it !!

Can't recall the first single, might have been Waterloo by Abba. First album was Bowie's Hunky Dory, from Harlequin records in Wembley. Quite a cool first album really, pretty pleased with myself all these years later.

I'm thinking Biz Markie - Just a Friend. Picked it up at a car boot sale I know that much. Or it could have been an Electro Rock record off my cousin. I'm sure he overcharged me.

To be honest I'm not sure. My dad used to dj so I've always been around music.

Well there are two really, the first record I ever had (bought for me)



Captain Scarlet & Thunserbirds record with a story on each side. (the Captain Scarlet one had him surviving an explosion on a nuclear passenger jet ) I remember this being bought in a supermarket in East London in the early '70s. Still have it.

First single I bought was Oh Bondage Up Yours by X-Ray spex in 1977 from the Stratford HMV Shop.
