Well here I am at the ripe old age of 39 and have literally only just discovered 1. Richie Valens, and 2. he was only 17 when he died in the same plane crash as Buddy Holly (22, didn't know that either) and the Big Bopper.

With a voice like that? I'm truly amazed.

Now sifting through YouTube for more of his stuff. Top comment on one of his videos being "please God, give us Richie again and we'll send you Bieber".

17 wasn't unusual at all back then.

The vast majority of those early Rockabilly/Rock n Roll artists that exploded out of Presley's Sun records success in '54/55 had been playing and performing in local Honkytonks and music halls since their early teens.
