Help! Wierd problem with sustain pedal
Discussion
Right, so I recently bought an electric piano - Yamaha P95. The sustain pedal which came with it felt a bit plasticky so I bought an aftermarket M-Audio SP2 to replace it. The connection is a jack-plug type, and both pedals worked equally well.
For the first couple of weeks all was hunky-dory, until the piano developed a fault - static-type noise from one of the speakers - at which point Amazon replaced it with a new one.
Now here's the wierd bit: on this second piano, the plasticky Yamaha pedal works fine - but, get this, the M-Audio one works in reverse, ie if you don't touch it then all the notes are sustained, but if you press the pedal the notes are not sustained.
So does anybody have any suggestion as to what's happening? Is the fault with the second piano, or is it with the M-Audio pedal? And if the latter, what can have happened to it in between unplugging it from the first piano and plugging it into the second?
Cheers guys.

Try pressing the sustain pedal and then turning on the keyboard. Sometimes that works to reverse its operation.
I've now given that a try, but unfortunately it didn't work. However, thank you for the suggestion.CrabDan said:
I'd suggest investigating your keyboard sustain settings in the main menu as a starting point.
Thanks also for this suggestion. Settings adjustment, as distinct from looking for a mechanical fault, sounds promising, but do you know how to go about looking at the main menu/settings in a digital piano scenario? Cupramax said:
My Yamaha sustain pedal has a polarity change switch on the underside so it can be permanently on, this or is there a sustain button on the keyboard itself? There is on mine...
Many thanks for this. There were no instructions with the pedal but thanks to your reply I have now found a switch on the base of the pedal which had been activated by mistake. The pedal is now working.Problem sorted by PHers once more.
