Iron Maiden headlining Download

Maiden confirmed (along with Ramstein) as headline acts for Download 2013..
I'm to old really but think i may have to brave the mud and hippies again

This is part of a tour already they have/are doing the Maiden North American leg, Download is part of the Maiden England part of the tour.

Yep I believe its part of maiden england tour, a sort of re-imagining of the seventh son tour.

41 ?? pah thats nothing, i've got 10 yrs on you and still going strong..takes a lot longer to recover now though


Havent seen any other uk dates on the present tour as yet, maybe still to be anounced.. Download should be something special tho'..

Download runs the risk of stagnating if it doesn't start to get with the times a bit. Can't keep confining the most relevant bands to the smaller stages.

Best Metal festivals by miles are on the continent. (ETA) AND they're cheaper by miles too.

Sadly true although a good excuse to go away, trying to decide if I should go for a day festival in December at the minute..

Surely the issue there is that if the modern bands were THAT relevant, they'd be the natural choice for the large stage? I'd argue it's as much about metal being so diffuse these days that there isn't really a current band that can give a properly big stage the show it deserves. Maybe that means the days of a "Monsters of Rock" style headline show are numbered and the future is with smaller events with more bands and less focus on headliners? Thinking back to Maiden at the O2, they had Trivium supporting, but aside from the first few rows, nobody was interested. Trivium are hardly an unpopular band either, but their fanbase is only ever going to get to a certain level, as there are just so many other very similar bands. Likewise, good though they are, you're not going to get 80,000 people turning out for Lamb of God or Mastodon. Everything is too fragmented these days. I honestly can't think of any current band (of any sub-genre) who could sustain an arena tour in the way Maiden and Metallica still can. They're just not out there.

Fair enough. I'm not much of a festival fan if I'm honest. Maybe I just don't "get" it.

I'd rather pick and choose bands I want to see and pay £25 to see them indoors, in a much smaller venue. It's just that - to me - Metal isnt about 1980 anymore.

Oh I don't disagree. I'll always go and see Maiden, but have never felt tempted to stand in a field for three days to achieve it. Small gigs are far more enjoyable. Roadburn would be my choice.

Roadburn usually has a great line-up but can be difficult to get tickets for.

How about Damnation? Must be some bands of interest for you both..

3 DAYS ? fk that for a plan,, just buy a day ticket..Maiden headlining Saturday so a nice daytrip , esp as i only live 40 miles away

eta tickets on sale tomo ! Slipknot Fri, Maiden Sat, Ramstein Sun.
Just went on the Sat this year and saw Biffy Clyro, Tenacious D, Steel Panther, Gun and Metallica. Not a bad day .

love maiden, seen then in glasgow a few times, getting 3 generations of maiden fans at their gigs

thaing that has amazed me is taht they have never done a football stadium tour with all the lads being massive football fans (adrian excepted) dream would be Upton Park home of west 'am for steve and nicko, bramall lane for bruce, riverside in 'boro for janick plus hampden for us scottish fans, could just imagine the clansman at hampden... f'king awesome
