Try some of Leftfield's stuff if you're not already familiar with it... IKWYM mean about it being 'trance' like - it's reminiscent of a trance breakdown in some ways. The problem with comparing it to Trance is that the genre's become that formulaic that people will reject anything that shows the influence unless it fits a very precise mould...

No worries - 'Leftism' is a good place to start, as is Underworld's 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman' - although that may be a bit too 'techno' for what you're looking for!

Which specific trance style did you mean?

It's a bit of a mash-up between IDM (intelligent dance music), ambient and minimal.

I'd recommend you check out: Autechre, Aphex Twin/AFX/Analord (All Richard James aliases), Cyclob/Kinesthesia and µ-Ziq. You might find something amongst that lots body of work to your taste.

Had another thought; this is more Electro (note most definitely not that electro house ste that has tried to misappropriate the name recently) and Techno, but an outfit called Drexciya might be worth a listen too.
