Good 90s (+ early 2000s) music for wedding reception!

My sister wants some 90s (+ early 2000s) music for her wedding reception. It needs to be vaguely good music (this seems hard for some reason!). It also has to be acceptable to all, so nothing too heavy (and no awful dance music!).

So far i have:

I need more I would prefer it wasn't too cheesy (this is hard for the 90s!), it probably needs a few more girly options too!

Any thoughts would be appreciated! I am somewhat tempted to try and sort WiFi and just use Spotify though.

Isn't that a given? I don't think I have ever been to a sober wedding and we all know that regardless of what music is being played there will be plenty of drunken relatives prepared to make a fool of themselves dancing along....

As much as I love Gangstarr. I really wouldn't play anything of their music at a wedding. To be honest unless it was a predominantly black crowd I'd avoid the rap music altogether. Even then I'd opt for old reggae and soul first.

Are there no old people at this wedding?

And really Above The Clouds? Come on man at least pick a love song from them like Royalty or something.

I'd agree on the gangstarr track purely because it's not very well known but I know many people who aren't black who are just as happy to listen to rap classics as they would be rock, pop or indie. Bit of an odd thing to say tbh.

And no-one panders to old people at a wedding (not at weddings that I've been to anyway), it'll be the youngins dancing late into the night not the 60+ folks. As long as the music is fairly inoffensive and not overly loud/angry/metal etc then anything fairly commercial and popular should be fine.

I said it because I can't ever imagine being a situation (short of djing at Tim Westwood's wedding) where there will be old people white people wanting to listen to rap music. It's not an issue of whether white/black/green people listen to rap music but for the most part when you start getting past 40 rap listeners start to dwindle in numbers. Don't get me wrong its an absolute banger of a tune but I'd never play it at a wedding. I'd want to get booked again not be known as the dj who plays songs with n###a this and n###a that infront of Aunty Mavis. It just strikes me as being juvenile if I'm being honest playing something just for the "shock" value.

I know this site can get its knickers in a twist with stereotyping but as a rule I rarely meet a black person who doesn't like rap but have met over the years lots of white people who don't like rap. Not to say white people don't like rap they do and in their thousands but with that basic thought in my mind I'd leave my rap box of records at home if I was asked to dj. [Eric MC Mode] I'd turn down the offer to play if I was asked to provide that sort of music at that sort of function [/Eric MC Mode]

We've also been to clearly different weddings because all colours as soon as the music gets cranked up its the old people dancing (badly) and the younger people joining in and the kids chasing each other around and sliding across the floor on their knees.

Spot on I'd say. We had my wife's 50th last week-end and the dance floor was packed. We had to pay the DJ a bit more to keep going.

It's surprising what people like to dance (and sing along)to; American Pie and Sweet Caroline went down a storm.

But it's a good idea to get the playlist organised in advance because it makes all the difference. I told ours NO Michael Jackson...I am fed up dancing to bleedin' Thriller.
