Why does everyone hate Bon Jovi?

To me, Bon Jovi go hand in hand with G'N'R as the top 2 late 80s onwards big-hair hard rock bands. Guns'n'Roses are still held in high regard these days by both new fans, and old fans with rose tinted vision, and pretty much everyone has at least one song by them that they like.
However, all I seem to find is universal hatred for Jovi as "cheesy, unimaginitive rubbish". Why all the hate for a band that spawned so many iconic and legendary songs?

I really like the Jovies, don't get me wrong,but I suppose there's a couple of things that might grate - if that's the right word- with folks:
- What made them so popular don't quite wash these days (see what I did there)their early stuff was all teenage angst, rebellion drinking sh*gging and all that stuff. Folks could identify with it when they and the band were in teens/youth, etc. Now, were all middle aged with kids/mortgages/nasal hair/pot bellies, so it's harder to relate to JBJ who is now a grandad I think, belting out some of the early stuff.
- they have become such a corporate monster, that you see more of JBJ - CEO of Bon Jovi inc, rather than JBJ complete with loaded six string on his back - but at least they are more in control of their sh*t than other bands, and will hopefully keep more of their hard earned.
- Are they getting more like Springsteen as they get older? some recent stuff not 'that' rocky to me
- This left feels right - WTF - nuff said
- Hugh McDonald - I just hope he's getting bloody well paid for being that invisible. baring in mind what he has done, even from the early days if you believe some stories, and after Such got the tin tack. But is he a member of the band or not -
Don't get me wrong - they're no worse than any other band who have been going that long and have been successful, just thought I'd chuck in a couple of reasons as to why....

I'm struggling to see what's especially wrong with those lyrics compared to any other song? Also Wanted Dead Or Alive considered to rival Livin on a Prayer as their all time greatest song"I'm a cowboy. On a steel horse I ride."

I like them. As with most bands of that age, not as good now as before. JBJ is really starting to age in terms of live performance,s last tiem I saw him he looked really tired/worn out.
Thing i don't like about them at the moment is their coporate greed - their last UK tour had ridiculous seat prices, so much so that they were sellign tickets half price.

Charging extortionate ticket prices - we all know.He's doing something right.
I also know before a lot of the London O2 gigs last tour they were giving away massivley overpriced tickets for half price and they were alsoselecting people from the back to take up seats at the front - a total overestimation of what they thought fans woudl pay t see them.
A band as big as them will always make money, no doubt.
Whatever you think those cowboy lyrics belong back in the 80's with the big hair and spandex. Yes i bet they cringe a lot singing that now, but hey times move on, Bon Jovi have moved with them, not particularly in a direction I like that much, very country. But come on guys, they were the biggest rock/pop band in the world at one point, I think that is why you get a lot of hate, always the same with hugely succesful things, there always has to be a lot of haters out there, sad human nature.
Jon has always been a bit OTT, bit full of himself for me, but always admired Richie Sambora, written some amazing riffs, and the early stuff, well, pretty top axe slinger, get a copy of the 85/86 Japan bootleg and watch that,real old school rock. He is a very underated guitar player, first solo album was great, second one bit commercial rubbish, but heyho
Would love to see Richie go back to do another 'from the heart' stranger in this town album, he is a great singer as well as guitar player...but I probably think his time is past now with all the rehab etc & the work ethic of BJ.
But overall I think BJ peaked for me 20 yrs ago, certainly not on my playlist anymore, but they do seem to have a lot of fans out there still and have stood the test of time earnings wise
