1974 is a bit early for Ms Summer. Her first big hit was "Love to Love You Baby" - which the BBC banned. That was 1975.

Even though she is looked on as The Queen of Disco, she actually emerged on the scene just before the disco craze took off. She had a unique voice.

Disco means different things to different people, from it's conception to the sell-out cheese fest it became - 'I Feel Love' might be the obvious tune to drag out, but (with Giorgio Moroder's involvement) it was a seminal peace of music that set the course of Electronica for decades to come, whilst (thanks to her cracking voice) standing in the face of the often-made ridiculous claim that electronic music has no soul... RIP

Sad news indeed. The great thing about good music and great artists is that their work never dies. Donna Summer rests in peace, her voice will will live forever. A fair few clubs around the world will be paying tribute this weekend I hope.

Listening to radio in car on the way home when it was announced, Simon Mayo spoke with Pete Waterman who sounded gutted, apparantly he had written to her regarding a tour later in the year - R.I.P

This is a zero point song.

Without this there would be have been no rave.

Without this dance music would be something we would barely recognise.

This song helped gay culture and acceptance come into the mainstream.

It is a true classic.
