New mix - Trance - Likes It Hard

Morning all!

Well, after a mammoth session of downloading and burning, I’m starting to put together some new mixes. There are a few in the offing, so pin your ears back.

Today we start with a fairly banging Trance set – I’ve called it ‘Likes It Hard’, just to raise the innuendo level. I hope you enjoy...

Don1, could you do a non-vocal set with loads of arpeggios going on? I love arpeggios for some reason.

Hoofy - interesting thought. Off the top of my head I don't know of many tracks that have arpeggios and not vocals in... and I don't know of any accapella collections that have them in either. If I did find them as stand alone, I'd have to layer over the top, and I only play of vinyl and CDJ, not computer (everything you hear is me raw off the mixer, nothing else).

Let me have a think about it... Currently I have Hard Cheese 4 to record, a proggy one, and three Trance, so I have some time to collect tracks!

Cool. I'll compile a big a list as possible to give you options if you want.

BTW What do you mean by "accapella collections that have them"?

Edit: Mix sounds good so far... gonna crank it up through the main hifi for a decent listen. Back later.

You're able to purchase accapella collections of differing genres - so just the vocal with nothing else. You're then able to overlay these during a set (with differing results!). I did it for a track in 'Wedding' (I think it's the first track) - 'This is not Montezuma'.

But that's the complete opposite of what I want.

Um. I just meant tunes with arpeggios and no singing whatsoever. (Choral voices/effects are fine.)

Hm. I wonder... do you want arpeggio samples? I could try creating them and you can see what you can do with them? Describe the style (or link to a YT video) and key to play in plus the tempo...

I know. The only track I can think of is a dub version of Darren Tates 'Brave New World', but I'm sure there are more out there! (What's worse is that track is now in my head and I can't hear anything else!)

Arpeggio samples? There's got to be a market for them in the DJ marketplace. Most tracks are around 7A-12A in the Trance world...

7A-12A is the camelot key wheel I use (simpler for me than F, G etc) - http://www.mixedinkey.com/HowTo

I use it as a guide, nothing more. My CDs and vinyl have key and bpm written on them, so when playing out/recording mixes, I can easily see what would be smooth and long to mix, vs a quick mix and listening for the part of the track that would work best.

There are still trick to learn with it mind...

Sure. Ultimately, if your sense of timing is poor, it wouldn't be of great help anyway!

Track choice, how smooth the mix is, how to move the keys around.... and ultimately what makes a crowd just detonate.
