I know of one for sale, and need a bass... but some internet research suggests that these are only good as firewood...

Anyone had experience with one? Are they really that awful? It'll be my first bass guitar but I know enough to avoid stringed instruments that will be more difficult to play than they need to be.

These were a range of very budget guitars and basses from the mid '80s, cheap construction, poor to play and with awful electronics. Buy a Yamaha instead, much better basses for your money.

Thanks for the feedback, it seems to get a lot of votes in the "crap at any price" category.

The Taiwanese copies of Fender, Gibson, Gretch and every other maker are so good I would always look at these.

Equally Yamaha and any of the other many Far East established makes.

I remember seeing some really cheap Indian copies years ago. They were absolutely appalling. Sort of vaguely semi acoustic but just unplayable.
