Artists similar - Meatloaf

Not sure how you would describe Meatloaf but anyone recommend similar artists?

Over the top music, lots of crazy stuff going on, rocky, strong vocals ?

I heard Todd Rundgren (Bat Out of Hell producer) say that the album was a parody of what Bruce Springsteen was doing in the early Seventies.

Flamboyant yet talented adult-orientated rock solo singer? Try some of Freddie Mercury's work. Understandably it all sounds very similar to Queen stuff.

This! The whole album is epic. Steinman wrote these songs for Meatloaf, but because of various contractual/legal/personal issues, Meat was not able to record. So Steinman gathered together four hugely impressive female singers, half of the E Street Band, sprinkled in some of the most impressive session musicians of the time (Eddie Martinez especially) and threw in Todd Rundgren for good measure and went mental in a New York studio.
It is possibly one of the most over the top LPs ever recorded and pretty much every track is an epic power ballad!! Safe Sex, It's All Coming Back To Me Now, Original Sin etc.
Meatloaf (and Celine Dion amongst others) have since recorded most of these songs (a number of them are on Bat Out Of Hell 2), but the original is the best, in my opinion at least.

Also if you like the Meatloaf/Steinman style, give Bad For Good by Jim Steinman himself a go. This was supposed to be the follow up to Bat Out Of Hell, but once again for various reasons Meat was not available and so Jim sang himself. Admittedly his voice is not fully up to the job, but he gave it a damn good go and it is a great listen.
Bonnie Tyler's 80s albums Faster Than The Speed Of Night and Secret Dreams & Forbidden Fires were also mainly written and produced by Steinman and his influence shows through in the epicness. Especially the track, Loving You's A Dirty Job sang as a duet with Todd Rundgren - seriously over the top stuff and the kitchen sink appears to go in early!!

edit - 'Good girls go to heaven' is one of my fave Meatloaf songs, interetsing to hear it sung by this woman - it is good though.
