Paul Young's cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart Again. Heinous.

https://youtu.be/SPBzmn8bcyk
Many years ago a girl at work kept going on about how brilliant the Paul Young version was (having never heard the original). She kept playing it over and over during her lunch break. The next day brought in my cassette of Substance and played her the original version. She promptly threw her Paul Young tape in the bin.

Anyway, my nomination:

True Faith by George Michael. That's so awful that listening to it breaches the Genevea Convention on Cruel and Unusual Punishment.

A Whole New World. Peter Andre and Katie Price
OMG this is horrendous absolute cringe fest......How did Peter Andre keep a straight face!

Zombie, the Adam feat Amy version.

Quite how a visceral anti war song becomes knocking one out in a car wash is beyond me.

Common People by William Shatner.

Close the thread.
Reopened.

I fking love Shatner’s stuff - he knows exactly what he’s doing and who he’s winding up. See the whole of “Seeking Major Tom” for confirmation.

Puddle of Mudd's cover of Nirvana's About A Girl is something to behold.

Mother of god. I thought the point of a cover is to do it in your own style, rather than trying to impersonate. That’s the thread winner for me.
Good to see Father Jack Hackett in his prime.

Amy Winehouse’ Valerie cover. I don’t understand what people hear in it, the original was far better. (Edit - didn’t read the thread!)
I’m quite a fan of the album (‘Tired of Hanging Around’ by The Zutons) the original is from - reminds me of being at uni!

The 00’s indie scene gave us some great music!
I'd go along with that but this might have something to do with me having "a thing" for Abi Harding the Saxamaphone player from the Zutons cloud9

I came here to post All Saints cover of Under the Bridge, but it seems to be the thread winner by some considerable margin!

So the All Saints are good at 1 thing then!!

It’s been done hundreds of times but any tune/song that is essentially a cover of Pachelbel Canon in D major ,that Maroon 5 one boils my piss…

What maroon 5 song would that be? I am struggling to think of any songs that are cover versions of a 300 year old classical violin piece to be fair

I agree too, I don't get the appeal of it.

Sinatra's, "My way' butchered by the Sex Pistols.
The Beatles "Dear Prudence" butchered by Siouxie and the Banshees.
And one that just grates on the ears.
Rolling Stones "Satisfaction" thoroughly butchered by Devo.

The first two at least, I much prefer the covers to the originals .
