This one is way less PH than most. North of the border this weekend for the cultural phenomenon that is Taylor Swift. Can see (and hear) Murryfield from where I am staying so a good warm up tonight before attending in person tomorrow. It certainly feels like I have entering a sequin covered parallel universe.
I did Edinburgh night 3 with my daughter - I wasn't a fan but having been I was converted to her showmanship. What a gig. She really knows how to light up a stadium. I hate to admit it, but that was the best performance I've ever been to. I have a Murrayfield debenture and the Swifties could teach us Scotland fans how to make noise like you can't believe. The noise after 'Champagne Problems' was like a jet engine at full chat only at teenage girl frequencies. We were close enough to the stage to feel like we were in a small venue and our tickets were only £90 each. I see re-sale values for the cheap seats in Liverpool, Cardiff and London are about £600 for restricted view positions.
Just heading over to the 'your unpopular views' thread now!
I had to pick them up afterwards and got there a bit early to avoid the madness getting in, so heard the last 4 tunes. Not really my thing but it did sound very impressive.
Her only moan was that the seats in Anflied were impossibly uncomfortable. Mine was the taking an hour to get a mile away from the stadium afterwards....
Foo Fighters last night at Hampden Park - a near 3-hour set and they know how to put on a show and keep the crowd happy.
They've got to the point now where they've been around so long that you have to accept you might only hear 1 or 2 tracks from your favourite old album though, however very few 'time to go to the bar' songs on the setlist apart from the 2nd and 3rd from last which were getting a bit anti-climatic until Everlong to finish.

Not a FF diehard but enjoyed the show last night - thought it got better starting with the acoustic ‘Eras’ set, when Dave growled a bit less and sing more. Totally professional band though, who seemed really into it.
Pain getting out though, and couldn’t believe the queue for the train, ended up almost walking back into town before we could get a cab.

Going to see Bernard Butler at Brewery Arts in Kendal tomorrow. He's just released a solo album, Good Grief, 25 years after the last one. Really looking forward to it, the new album is excellent.
We saw him too - his chatting between songs was as nice to listen to as the songs themselves. C4ME said:

Not knowing what to expect, this turned out to be really rather epic. The noise from the crowd with screaming, singing along and dancing solid for over three hours, the fans outfits, the choreography, the breadth of songs, the personal nature of Taylor Swift herself and just an endless happy vibe. How she does this show time after time is something. Proper mega star stuff.w1bbles said:

This comment really made me smile. You have described the moment perfectly. bodhi said:

You were brave! We did the 40 minute walk back into Edinburgh with 75,000 others. I cannot imagine trying to get a car through and imagine Anfield was similar. Big brownie points earned there. Edited by C4ME on Tuesday 18th June 18:07

Getting in was actually dead easy - as you may be aware Anfield is in the middle of a housing estate so there were plenty of rat runs and I could find a residential street to wait on with a few other people just opposite the Kop and enjoy the last 4 songs or so. Getting out was a slightly different story. Edited by C4ME on Tuesday 18th June 18:07
However the wife took our niece who's had a fairly tough time of things, with both her dad walking out on her and her stepdad doing the same a couple of weeks after her little brother was born, so seeing the grin on her and the wife's faces as they came out made it all very worthwhile.
Also meant I didn't get too much grief for booking a last minute lads golf holiday on the same weekend.....

Also at FF gig last night, my second time seeing them live. Smashed it as expected, Dave Grohl is a perfect frontman and as you say they know how to put on a show.Hampden disappointed though for all the reasons others are suggesting - sound quality particularly poor near the start but seemed to settle as the show progressed.
The crowd singing Flower of Scotland was a nice little interlude.
My only other gig so far this year has been Tenacious D at the Hydro back in May - I had a look back through the thread but couldn't see anyone mention having seen them.
Easily into my top 5 gigs of all time - another band who really know how to put on a show, while not taking themselves (or anything) too seriously!
For rest of 2024, frustrated to have missed out on Interpol at Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. Hoping to catch Lo Moon in November.

not a stadium or arena mega gig; but off the see Lady Blackbird tonight. She's a fab soul/jazz singer with an amazing voice. Did vocals for some of Moby's recent stuff
This is an album launch freebie in a private club in London, with a Q& A afterwards. She's doing the Royal Festival Hall later in hte week.
have already seen her 5 times in past couple of years so know what to expect.

So my first ever gig was the 9th June, Mt. Joy at SWX Bristol. It was incredible !!! Loved every minute of it, whole experience let down massively by the fact that when i got back to the car my wife called and told me her Dad had passed away... At least he waited for the concert to finish i suppose.
Killers this weekend in Manchester with the good lady.Cannot wait !
