We love Trance music

For the Soundclouders amongst us, Ben Gold has just released a 9 hour set and I am really enjoying Jonny Davidson - Journeys 010 blew my mind…

Was at a festival type gig thing at the weekend and saw some headline DJs that apparently have a good following; Low Steppa, Sam Divine and Arielle Free. It wasn't like I remembered it to be... every single track was almost identical and I had a hard time understanding what the fuss was about. It was all very 'big room', but I must be getting old.

If it's all become beige, then come over to the hard side https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Regbuser said:

I'm old enough to think that modern music is rubbish. But I think not much modern EDM (shudder) sorry dance music is much good.
The Above and Beyond Group Therapy weekly podcast/sesh is occasionally good, but I just drift back to 1995-2005 House music as the best
Example here below vocal house, not Trance, apols hold on past the vocals to the beat kick in.
And then there's this from recently, which restores my faith...
Check this from the YT comments on that track...
These are a couple of my favourites at the moment. Neither are especially new, although there is definitely a revival of the trance sound in mainstream dance music now, which makes a nice change from the house and techno of recent years. Even the new SHM track is particularly "trancy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2pof3BS1NI
Anyway... my selections are more on the vocal side of life, but are equally beautiful.
Sunny Lax - Emerald
Ilan Bluestone - Will We Remain (probably more house, melodic techno??)

No thank you, I hate techno with a passion. Nothing happens in it. Don1 said:
A Defected thing I take it? Definitely not Trance…
Yeah I did some research post-event to see what all the hype was about (couldn't find any rational reason why any would be headlining anything) but could only really find that they all have some sort of association with Defected. Was reading the thread and come across this from a few months ago.
"(I kept finding that things would be just getting going and then the dj would slow it down a bit)" .
The worst famous DJ for this is Fatboy Slim in my experience, thought it was only me but it isn't, most of the tunes are pretty good and just as the crowd are ready for a serious drop of a banging tune he slows the bloody thing down. It would be ok if he could go even bigger, but he never does.
He did it Ally Pally in Feb 2018 and did the same at Glastonbury this year with his set, he just leaves me empty as you know he is going to ruin it.
I mostly listen in the car these days, as my mini raver 16yo doesn't think her fat old dad should be on the dance floor. It's not all bad the Bower & Wilkins in my SV8 is the best sound source I've got. The factory fit sub in the boot can really shift some air.

I suppose I get what you're saying about nothing happening in it, but I'm definitely of the opinion trance, or at least the mainstream stuff just like most music was so much better in the past before it got too popular.

It's a funny one, I've just actually said in the techno thread that I feel trance these days is not really trance the way I understood it from my younger days. It's more like pop with a 4/4 beat and some of the techno I hear now is more trancey.
Depends where you look. The Trance channels on di.fm are still playing trance, bigdub and Don1 are still doing trance mixes, so clearly trance is still alive and well.
Sure, there is plenty of EDM around that isn't trance and is mislabelled as trance, but that is hardly the fault of trance.

There are some modern tracks out there that would disagree with you.
Bryan Kearney - I love you and Will Atkinson - Rush for example.
I gave them both a listen. Both good, I'll give them that, but when you compare them to something like Lange's remix of Agenda - Heaven, they're not even in the same stratosphere. Bryan Kearney - I love you and Will Atkinson - Rush for example.
Music changes over time, there is a lot of trance still about, if anything there is more "proper" trance today than there was 5 or 10 years ago as the sound has come back into more mainstream music. What seems different these days is the attention span of the audience and I think that's a shame, going to A&B gigs back in 2007, 2008 the special moments were when the crowd all had their hands in the air, and those don't seem to happen any more. I won't go and see A&B any more, its not special any more.
