I always preferred their version of "Ziggy Stardust", but it's not all that different from the original now I listen to it again.
It's pretty good but does sound like a Bowie tribute. Better than their dire version of telegram Sam though!

Much prefer the Arctic Monkeys (? London Olympics?) version to this and the original, but deserves a mention...

Micheal Jackson's rendition of Come Together

this is surprisingly good (albeit I still prefer the original)...

Was this used in the fall guy film ? They used the song multiple times throughout the film .
Yes it was, and it's a cracker.

Same guy did "Time in a Bottle" for one of the f&f films... Possibly Hobbs n Shaw...

Their version of Eno's Third Uncle was OK and possibly better than the original -->

Gang of Youths covering LCD Soundsystem's 'All My Friends' - I'd say equally excellent rather than better. Builds nicely into something wonderful.

I posted this in the Listening right now thread, but actually better suited here.

Anna Ash brings a more soulful vocal and I think the base / drums arrangement is spot on vs Lucinda Williams original imo.

Very easy listening with headphones or decent speakers, like warm honey.

A few from me, mostly with a nod back to much earlier posts on this thread.

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence (already mentioned several times), Helter Skelter and 20th Century Boy. All brilliant.

EBTG - The Covers EP - Time after Time (already mentioned), Alison and Tougher than the Rest. All acoustic covers and all brilliant. Not so keen on "Love is Strange", but for some reason that's the title that got all the airplay. Also I don't wanna talk about it.

This Mortal Coil / Cocteau Twins - Song to the Siren - SO much better than any other version of this song. In fact, possibly the 2nd greatest single ever released (after Blue Monday). I used to have a 5 minute long cassette that looped, possibly from an answering machine. I recorded this onto it one and a bit times and used to listen to it continually.

Also, Days and New England by Kirsty McColl. They Don't Know might also qualify seeing as it was a hit first for Tracy Ullman, even though Kirsty released it first.

Days is a really lame version of a great song IMO.

The Blue Aeroplanes’ version of Paul Simon’s The Boy In The Bubble.

The Blue Aeroplanes had couple of absolutely cracking albums, they’re still going & gigging. I think they’ve had more ex members than The Fall with half the population of Bristol being in the band at one time or another.

Police & Thieves

I not 100% on this as it really depends on my mood but at worse, the two versions are on par. In the very unlikely event that someone put a gun to my head a forced me for a decision then I reckon I am picking the Clash version over Junior Murvin (immortalised in Lock stock and two smoking barrels)

Slight edit for completeness hehe

Definitely agree it was better than the original - but then FNM have a habit of this. Easy, This Guy's in Love with You and I Started a Joke were all far better than the original version.
