The fella who's just come on to duet, dressed like he's been dragged away from re-grouting his bathroom, obviously isn't plugged into the same computer.
rofl
rofl it looked like he had just closed his burger van, wiped his hands on his apron, took a wrong turn and ended up on stage.

I did too. I underestimated her. When I saw she was headlining, I figured I’d not watch it and do something else. It’s not typically my type of music these days. (Although I spent a lot of time in clubs in the late 90s).

I saw the interview beforehand and she said how she’d worked hard to get there, took nothing for granted and was rehearsing from January in preparation.

The TV was still on when she started and I ended up watching her full set and really enjoyed it. You could see the amount of work that had gone into it (compare that to the Sugarbabes for example).

It must have been a great experience to be there and what a way to set a weekend of music off with a big party on the Friday night.

I’m heading to Sunday Service tomorrow and I think my car playlist is going to get some extra tracks for the drive down. smile

Re. Dua Lipa
Definitely seemed to be miming to my eyes/ears but do people care as much these days?
Personally, if I go to a gig/festival I'd want the acts to be playing and/or singling live.
Still a decent set though.

I struggled through the PJ Harvey set, I'm a fan but it wasn't easy going smile

Absolutely not miming. Whether she's anyone's cup of tea or not, the talent is undeniable.

I thought Dua Lipa was bang average, but was watching PJ Harvey before which I thought was fantastic. Lasted 10 minutes or so and switched to IDLES, who were superb. Tried Lipa again 40 minutes later and it was no better.

I think there was a fair bit of miming, we watched another artist earlier ( Anne-Marie ) which was the same. Its done very well though.

My wife said the same thing about the Sugarbabes laugh and the ginger one was definitely out of tune on a couple of songs.
Enjoyed Dua Lipa though and I wasn’t expecting to.

She's singing over a backing track. It isn't miming

I know that, miming is the wrong word, but when you're jumping around and the vocal still sounds spot on its clearly not all her live vocal. I also know she has a great voice and enjoy a few of her songs, but thought this was an average show.

Not even doing that. She even introduced her band. That kind of studio based music will be done live through a mix of live band & programming & she's hardly uniique in that. I'ts a weird form of musical puritanism that pushes people into suggesting an artist they don't chime with is little more than a marionette.

Thats exactly how it works, they still have vocals, so can talk to the audience and sing etc, but the recorded vocal is there for the songs, so when an artist is dancing and jumping around, the recorded vocals are there as a filler and to ensure that the vocals remain perfect.

LCD Soundsystem are smashing it, going down very well with a glass or two of vino.
Agreed. Can’t say I’ve ever listened to them before but I’m entertained by this.
Another thumbs-up for LCD Soundsystem. Never really bothered with them before but a great set and they really got the crowd going.
Brilliant as usual, the drop in Dance Yourself Clean always makes me smile. All My Friends epic as usual. My only gripe is James always messes with the vocals on Tribulations.

Jamie XX was excellent too.

More than a little FOMO for not taking my ticket this year and weather looks spot on

I thought Dua Lipa knocked it out of the park last night. It was an excellent show all round.

She seemed genuinely chuffed to be there which was nice I thought.

I don't know about miming during the dance routines, but at one point she stood there and sang with a pretty stripped down band and wasn't miming then (and very good it was too).

She was clearly singing live- sometimes- over a backing vocal track, a fairly commonplace practice now sadly with these kinds of pop stars where the image and dancing about non-stop is deemed as or more important than the actual music.

That's it in a nutshell, not my cup of tea, I think it makes everything a little sterile. Each to their own though.

Agree 100% - it was one hell of a performance
