Judas Priests versions of both,

Green Manalishi
Diamonds and Rust
Have to admit I heard Priest's versions of both of these before the originals (PG's Fleetwood Mac/Joan Baez), and reckoned they were both good tunes.

Baez likes the Priest version of Diamonds And Rust.

Not so much murder as dismemberment and evisceration on the
mouldy corpse of poor Eleanor Rigby, committed by the baroque
pomp pop combo Vanilla Fudge.
How about this cover

Rick Springfield later from General Hospital on guitar and Beeb Birtles later from Little River Band on bass

My band did a thundering mashup of the Vanilla Fudge and Zoot versions, heavy as feck

Celine Dion. My first thought of her cancelled tour was good, as I’m not a big fan, but it sounds like her immediate, and most likely terminal, future is not going to be pleasant.
Been a fan of her from the beginning, she is fantastic in concert and does a great version of River Deep Mountain High. Some of her later stuff isn't so great.

Jeff Beck torturing Nessun Dorma. If we're allowed to nominate instrumental versions.

Gwen Steffani covering Its my life by Talk Talk. Obviously the worst ever is scissor sisters covering comfortably numb followed by under the bridge by All Saints but we have had those already.

This was a great version IMO, and I’m far from a fan of hers.

I’d nominate “Without You” wailed by Mariah Carey.

This was actually a cover of a cover, originally sung by Badfinger and then a No 1 for Harry Nilsson in 1971.
Mariah - just another f-ing note - Carey absolutely murdered this classic song.

Some of my 'favourites' here.

Paul Young's "Love will tear us apart" is probably the one I hate the most - He tears any emotion out of the song. One wonders if he'd ever heard the original. George Michael's "True Faith" is utter tripe, too, but at least he was trying to do something different with the song, it just didn't, IMO, work on any level and I like a lot of his stuff. Has there EVER been a good JD/NO cover?

Maria Carey's "Without You" is a song that I hate, hate, hate - I will turn off the TV or radio if it comes on - I've always felt she was a performer whose lungs worked better on suck than blow, nothing else explains her career IMO.

I can now add "Heaven" by Simply Red - I'm a big fan of the Talking Heads original and I guess Hucknall had heard it, but you wonder what went on in his head to think "and it'll sound better if I sing it like this" - Whatever it was, I would suggest a CT scan is required!

Part of Moby's cover of 'New Dawn Fades' is used to good effect in the film 'Heat' but I've never heard the whole song. Never heard the original either, come to that.

Power Station - their cover of Get It On (Bang A Gong) - not good.

Robert Palmer is decent though.

Anyone seen Puddle of Mudd’s attempt at About a Girl?

It’s utterly amazing

Edit: just noticed it was posted ages ago. Oh well, worth another link I’d say. It still makes me laugh. I like how the singer already knows he can’t do it before he’s even started the first line!
