To go with a back-edition of Masterchef on iPlayer I thought I'd treat myself to some kippers.

Followed the instructions exactly - 4 mins qt 750W to defrost it said. Go back to watch Masterchef. Ping. Go to see kippers. Overcooked, shrivelled and quite horrible. Bin.

Can't even fking microwave fking kippers!!!

I never follow 'recipes' without first referencing common sense.

Yep, that was where I went wrong.

Have always managed to microwave kippers OK before though!

Two mistakes really...

1.Using a microwave
2.Expecting a "cooked" prodcut to be edible after.

Ours is used for defrosting stuff and nuking frozen veg.Only.

Think I'll stick to cold food from now on.

This recipe looks interesting:

Ah yes. Having retrieved the foetid box for examination it is so. Problem is, it says 'Defrost setting' on the left but '750W' along the top. In my haste to return to Masterchef I only saw the 750W bit...

Ironically I started using the proper 'defrost' setting as per the microwave, using the weight, but it wanted 14 minutes so I went for the quick option paperbag
