Are there any tinned tuna lovers on PH that shop in Asda?

About 6 months ago my local Asda stocked a new brand of tuna labled Ventresca Tuna Fillets, in a plain old normal sized tuna tin with a white label, produced in Thailand and branded as Asda's own.

It was the most beautiful texture and flavour I've ever tasted, and proper fillets of fish, moist and succulent, in sunflower oil I think. Then it disappeared never to be seen again.

I find the normal brands, Princes, John West, edible but nothing special at all, basically just a tin of mush containing no fillets of fish at all, and dry tasting.

So I'm wondering whether other Asda branches still stock the Thailand produce? Or I'm thinking that perhaps one of the big boys have bought them up so they can carry on selling tinned mush. Once you've tried the Thailand stuff you would never want anything else.

It was priced about the same as the Princes mushy stuff, and if I'd known it was going to vanish I'd have bought 100 tins lol.

Any sightings in your local Asda's? smile

ps. Another one I liked was smoked tuna fillets by John West, in an oblong tin (like a kipper tin with a pull lid) from Morrison's, but that's disappeared too.

If you can, try Chicken of the Sea. It's about the only tinned tuna in the UK which actually tastes like tuna and maintains some of the texture. It's hard to find though, Costco usually have it smile

Ok, thanks, I'll look out for it.

Any Asda spotters here?

I'm a tuna lover (and Asda shopper for things like that).

I've never seen the tuna you describe at my local branch (Burgh Heath).

It's not new! Ventresca is the foie gras of tinned tuna. If you find it at a reasonable price (I can't) buy lots!

ETA- google it.

Yes! After initially selling it in white tins, it changed to a box like in your picture with a plain label-less tin inside the box. Now I have to find which branches still stock it smile
