The chap in front of me this morning was buying 4 cans of Special Brew, 2 Pot Noodles and a bottle of vodka. Definitely broadening their customer base.

eughhh, yes I have noticed that Waitrose seems to be filling up with the wrong kind, a campaign that would be good if they stopped, call me snobby but if I want to go to a shop full of thick people with screaming kids running everywhere causing chaos, I will go to Asda or Tesco, however I like many others wish to shop in a place where the aisles are twice as wide as Tesco, kids are kept on a leash, no one leaves trolleys in the way for you to move out of the way, no one takes up the whole aisle talking with friends they have met.

Sadly I feel I may have to switch to online shopping if it carries on.

Have any of them got self-service tills yet? Local one hasn't though Sainsbury's has got them frown. Strangely our local Tesco Extra hasn't any though it opened in March and could probably house a (rudderless) jumbo jet.

Bit snobby, yes! But I do know what you mean!!

I switched to online shopping a while back... much less hassle, and no risk of car park trolley dings! I get my branded/tinned/packaged goods that way, and as the supermarkets are all pretty much the same when it comes to that stuff, I use Tesco, Sainsburys or Asda, depending on who happens to have the best offers at the time. At the moment it's Sainsburys as they sent me a bunch of "£12 off a £60 shop" vouchers, which is effectively a 20% discount on everything I buy!

For fresh meat, veg and fish I go to the local farm shop/butchers, and local fishmonger. Which costs a bit more than the supermarket, but the quality is MUCH better. Particularly on meat, plus I can get exactly what I want. I have a beautiful belly pork joint in the oven right now which I got from the farm shop, and the crackling always comes out perfect - the supermarket stuff rarely does because the skin is just too 'wet' due to it having been vacuum packed. When I buy a joint of belly pork, my farm shop butcher gets out half a side of pig and asks me exactly where I'd like it cut, and how big! he also scores it exactly how I like.

The one in Windsor has, and it's rubbish. Sainsbury's and Tesco appear to have gone with the same vendor, and got machines that work. Waitrose appear to have picked someone else (at least in Windsor) and have ended up with a machine with massively poor ergonomics (the bag placement is all wrong, it's set back a good way from the scanner which makes life awkward) and a lag which means if you're too fast at scanning the item and then placing it in the bag it doesn't think you've done it. This then means the machine sits around waiting for you to place the item that's already there into the bag again. Awful.

Does Waitrose sell Special Brew? I'd be amazed if my local one (Cobham) does.

I've never seen Special Brew in our local one, mind you it's quite a small one so doesn't carry everything that say the Marlborough store does. Actually come to think of it, i've never seen a pot noodle either.

I was surprised too, it was just down the road from Cobham in Weybridge.

I'll have to look.

Cobham Waitrose does sell Pot Noodle, but only in 'chow mein' and 'chicken and mushroom' flavours, and right on the bottom shelf, as far from the sight of decent people as it's possible to get.

I go to Asda for mine. smile

Finally we have a Waitrose! Opened beginning of the month. I missed it terribly from using it most of the time when living on the mainland. Strange thing, they put it in East Cowes which isn't the nicest part of the island...

Anyhow, we went on Tuesday (when the road it is on had re-opened due to flooding) it was great.. felt like I had come home ! And it was pretty empty thumbup Was very disappointed they did not have any chicken parfait, but they did have loads of Mull of Kintyre cheddar lick

Well it is right by the bus stop and maybe that's why there are seats on the green?

I'll check out my local, Sunningdale. WTS wink
