Personally I found The Waterside vastly superior to Gavroche.
You would also struggle to eat at the FD for £500 for two (although in no way would you be hungry afterwards)
Heston is opening a place at the Mandarin Oriental (London) in December which might be worth considering and the Savoy Grill re-opens at the end of the month.

Gidleigh Park?

Probably not on that budget. Rooms are very expensive.

yes They do do some good offers from time to time though might be worth a look.

As someone else said Savoy Grill reopens soon - I absolutely loved it there when we went, they are also doing some good offers at the momment when staying at the hotel.

Do you need to stay at the restaurant itself? A nice limo service should repair you suitable accommodation within the local area, apart from London obviously

Look at the Ramesy thread at Royal Hospital Road...

Limo there and back and may get some change out of £500? (depending where in Surrey obviously - and it may just be a cab)

Fair point on so many counts. I dont particluarly like the guy (and have met him briefly) but there is no doubt that RHR, his flagship is something special. Nothing like Claridges even though we loved that a while ago when did the Chef's Table. Very different experiences and have heard no bad words about RHR at all. Truly a special London venue....

He is a c0ck though! (Despite most of his stable of chefs having nothing but good to say about him)

We stayed at the Royal Crescent a couple of years ago - it was lovely and the food yummy.

Wasn't impressed at breakfast though - was full of "business" people tapping away on laptops and talking loudly on mobile phones, I think they were there on a training course or something.
