Looking at the on-line menu for Blackhouse in Leeds and notice they sell Wagyu beef fillet steak, at £55 a pop. It doesn't state the weight. The 'normal' 7oz fillet is £20. So presuming the Wagyu is similar weight, is it worth the extra? Anyone had it before and is it significantly better than regular fillet ?

Depends if it's proper wagyu. Lots of farms in australia have wagyu cows but they're not proper wagyu/kobe in the way they're reared they're just the breed.

It's awesome but as your man Silent says, a lot of what is touted as Wagyu isn't.

There are only two proper Wagyu herds in the UK. Only one of which is raised in the Japanese style.

Get proper provenance before buying but if its the proper stuff you'll not have tasted beef like it.

On the menu is states "raised on a beer diet and massaged from birth". Sounds like the real deal, but I will of course ask before ordering.

I am literally salivating at the thought !

I have had it a couple of times from there. It is Australian, but it is damn good. although I wouldn't say £50 good.

Blackhouse had a 40% off deal from noon to 6pm, it makes trying the more exotic ingredients a bit more (ahem) palletable

It's one of those things you cannot ever tell a comparison for because you would be bankrupt!

From the Internet I guess it is very fatty and when renders down makes a very soft melt in the mouth experience. I'd love to try it but for the cost I'd be forever wondering whether it was a good version or not.

I'm going to take a wild guess here. If you like your steaks to be charred and rare and juicy and loads of competing textures and flavours your will be disappointed. If you want something like a warmed up steak tartare, then you will be in heaven.

It's a lot of money to find out though.

£55? Not worth the risk that it isn't a £55 experience.
