Just happened to find out from a friend of mine that the London Rum Festival is on next month (16/17th October).
I've booked my tickets already.

- Over 400 rums to sip, savour and buy.
- Try cocktails mixed by the UK's best mixologists (now there's a word).
- Live musical entertainment including salsa, soca, reggae, zouk and samba.
- Rum master classes conducted by industry experts and master blenders.

I LOVE Rum!

I used to drink Sailor Jerry's by the bottle full until they changed their recipe. bds!

Can anyone recommend a similar style/taste to that of the Old Sailor Jerry's style?

you love rum yet sailor jerry is your favourite? that just does not compute. try something like appletons vx or mount gay [same price as SJ] but mix with tesco almond coke and a wedge of fresh squeezed lime. if you prefer the SJ then i'll eat my rum soaked hat!


another rum lover here, from an early age albeit in different levels of refinement.

for some reason, my favourite drink as a kid was half lambs, half blackcurrant cordial. hmmm, durrrrty

these days i prefer aged caribbean rums. currently on my shelf are angostura 1824 and pyrat xo [bought after a recommendation on the whisky thread - lovely stuff]. also have some myers and some appletons 8yr old for mixing.

my dad professes not to drink rum, yet has an unopened pussers trafalgar decanter which he refuse to let me have a tot.

I'm definitely a fan of a fine tot of rum. Wonderful stuff for an after dinner nightcap.

Unfortunately I like it enough that one after-dinner nightcap leaves me wanting a second.

Best avoided in larger quantities. But very fine after the right meal...

Very partial to a Havana Club 7 yr old, or a Diplomatico Reserva.

tbh i would avoid anything on optic if you can.

A fantastic entry to rum is El Dorado 15. Not too fiery, but has all the molasses sugar and spiciness you want.

Good to see another Pyrat fan. I was at the distillery in '08, great place.

and new Sailor Jerry is wayyyyy better than the old. Was far too sweet before!

I visited the appletons distillery & plantation back in '05. with the exchange rate as good as it was i bought 4 bottles of 21yr old for a tenner each! an american guy went several better by purchasing a barrel.

I may actually be in london that weekend now I think about it....

I'm surprised its so little known. none of the other chains stock a version, but it tastes amazing as a mixer,is sugar free, and only 70p or so for 2litres. look for the yellow label.

Yes, I do. I currently have Sailor Jerrys, Pampero, Lambs Spiced and Legendario 7 in my stash

Also a big fan of the dark Havanas with Barrel Proof being the nicest, Mount Gay is very nice but always think it needs to be mixed.

That's a bit rubbish, it's the best stuff IMO. I've not found any stormy ginger beer for a while, but luckily one of my locals now has black seal.

May be visiting friends in Hamilton soon. I was supposed to be over for the tall ships, but couldn't make it. Gutted as I hear spirit of Bermuda won the esperanto.

I've got a bottle of Flor De Cana, Centenario XXI Nicaraguan Golden Rum on the go at the minute, a friend bought it for me. Very tasty indeed.
