Roadkill taste??

Im not talking pheasants, more any other of the exotica that can be found across the highways and byways, like deer, badgers foxes etc.

I suspect it depends on how long it's been there.

A range from "gamey" to "instant hurl".

One of the problems is that if an animal has been flattened by a car it's guts get mashed and the crud in its alimentary canal seeps into the meat.

This can be rank.

You gut rabbits the moment you do them in for this reason...

Well, IIRC some bloke has written a book on it, so perhaps take a look at that?

Personally, I won't be stopping to pick up any dead animal at the roadside.

Yes, but some bloke writing a book about it has obviously had his palm crossed with silver , Im looking for the Mr Average who has, just to get an idea of what things actually taste like.

Even a crow won't eat a fox- I would suggest you don't try either.
A rabbit can be bought for a couple of quid, deer isn't as it's name suggests. Why bother risking the insect blown rotting meat at the roadside when you could buy a nice bit for a few quid??

I've eaten roadkill deer and it was delicious.

An ex gf lived out in the sticks, a friend of her parents hit a deer with his car on day and that very Sunday we were enjoying it for our lunch

He's been doing it for years, though I'm not sure what progress has been made on the book. I'll ask next time I see him.

I used to know a man who once found a freshly squished hare. And it was squished, flat in the middle. The legs hadn't been run over, however, so he hacked them off with a pen knife and took them home for tea - no guts down there.

yeah, but roo bars tend to be much more substantial, as people generally hit roos while at cruising velocity, and damage to your rad whilst out in the outback 1000miles from anywhere is absolutely unacceptable! lol

Don's comment sounds about right. I was wondering the other day why desperados starving in harsh enviroments wouldn't eat guts - clearly very bad likelihood of serious toxins, and a seriously bad taste I'd imagine.
