bite to eat in Lancaster

Help required please , I am based at the holiday inn Lancaster on buisness quite regularly , bored of their menu , any half decent places for evening meals that can be recommeded ,

Probably not. Try and get a fit student to cook you a Home Pride chicken korma.

It's the pits up there isn't it? Why don't you go to Morcombe or Blackpool?

All good suggestions, although I'd swap the Sun Cafe and go for the Sun Inn. Brilliant pub.

Or, instead of turning right out of the carpark, turn left and keep going until you get to a pub called Fenwick Arms.

There are loads of great places to eat in Lancaster!

As mentioned, for a really good curry, go to the Sultan. http://www.sultanoflancaster.com/ As above, no alcohol but they do a really good Mango lassi.

For a cheaper curry, you can go to Imran's, which is opposite the market on King Street. It's homemade pakistani food, £7 for all you can eat including a drink. They normally have two meat curries, and other vegetarian ones, fresh naans, saag aloo and lots of other bits and pieces. Really good food, don't be but off by the 'basic' decor!

For Chinese, try the Golden Dragon on George Street.

For normal pub food, try the Borough on Dalton Square, the Sun pub or as above turn left and head out into the country, about 15 miles away try the Lunesdale Arms and the Highwayman.

Some nice more traditional restaurants include the Meeting House restaurant, the Sun cafe, and the Gatehouse (they're all listed on Google).

Mung Mee is on Chapel Lane and does good Thai food, just over the road from there is Miyabi's which is a really good Japanese restaurant, although it does help to be in a big group when you go as they cook a lot of the food in front of you and it's always good fun!

If you like Italian there is Etna's on New Street or Pizza Marherita (a personal favourite) on Moor Lane.

Or if you're a vegan vegetablist there is always the Whale Tail cafe.

I'm sure I've missed lots off but that should give you some to start off with.

No, just bored at work.

Getting fed at the Borough always seems to take a long time, but the food is quite good once you get it. Haven't eaten there for about a year though so not sure if it's got worse. I should really go more often as I live about 30 seconds from it.

Interesting what you say about the Highwayman, I've been favouring the Lunesdale Arms recently but I thought it was just me, perhaps they are getting a bit complacent now they've been open a while...

I think both the Borough and the Highwayman are suffering from resting on their laurels (Spelling?) They are pleasant to drink in, but I’ve noticed the portions getting smaller and just a general tardiness.

Yes it is.
the upstiars part in the resturant and to the side underneath is a cafe which is great for lunches

That's the second good thing I have heard about it! Have to try sometime. Me and a couple of mates are currently working through the restaurants in Lancaster trying them all out...can't wait to try Mr. Jones all-you-can-eat place

In addition to what I put yesterday, if you go one junction down the motorway to Junction 33 there are a few good pubs - The Bay Horse is nice, but costly, or the Plough in Galgate is very good value - the food is quite good and you get LOTS of it!

Have the salt'n'pepper ribs... really nice. I forgot about the Bay Horse - I've eaten there once and thought it was excellent if, as you say, a little pricey.

I walk past Mr Jones everyday - just about to pop out for my lunchtime walk now!

Try Pizza Margherita opposite St. Nicholas carpark entrance (near the theatre). Don't be confused by the name, they are not any kind of 'fast food' outlet. It's very well established and won numerous awards for it's pizzas.

was not able to log onto ph last week so my two evening meals constisted of burger and fries in the bar in front of the football at the hotel on one night , and meeting a client for an iffey steak at the Lancasterion (sp?)at the edge of White Lund .

will give some of the suggestions a go in the coming year , ( especially the curry house )

The Lancastrian is now a Italian place. Look forward to reading the review...You could go for a beer and punch up in the pub next to it, the Farm House Tavern.
