30 yo whisky

I'm 30 this coming June and enjoy malt whisky. I thought, useful chap I am I might have an off the cuff answer for anyone who fancies getting me more than a pair of socks for my birthday. I thought it might be nice to get a little bit better whisky perhaps than I usually go for and get a 30yo one at that - so I open the floor to you (not too silly moneywise as this would be a suggestion for someone else to buy. I typically go for Islay, but am open to new horizons...)

Balvenie 30 is £300 and very, very good. Glenfiddich 30 is a bit less.

Not too many 30 year olds around because you need a decent amount of old whisky to keep it tasting consistent - the other option is single barrel stuff but that tends to be very expensive indeed at that age.

I enjoy Balvenie, so could be an option, although I hadn't appreciated it might be as much as that!

Actually, I was lucky enough to try a 30yo Lagavulin a wee while back. It was a superb dram, I asked the price (I'm 30 in a week or so) and

That Highland Park is a real stunner.

The best blended whiskey is a 30 yo Hibiki. Was voted the best blend for the past 2 years running. I think it's aboyt £1500 a pop though! Probably doesn't help.

actually, there are a few 30 year olds under £100.

on whiskyexchange.com you can get a Tamdhu, Glen Spey, Longmorn, Glencraig and a Dalmore all under a ton.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, definitely some food for thought. I think the Balvenie is looking most likely, although I love the sound of the Dalmore... at a cost!!
