How Long do Eggs Stay Fresh?

Put them in a pan of water.
If they float, they're ok...
Or is it if they sink....?
Can't remember, one or the other...
HTH...
It's if they sink you're okay. Eggshell is ever so slightly porous, hence contents of egg will dehydrate slightly over time and the ickle space at the top of the yolk sac will fill with air. I think. Something like that anyway. Pretty please don't blame me if you get food poisoning. If they float, they're ok...

Dunno why you want to eat eggs anyway - chicken periods

They'll be fine. I've eaten eggs far more out of date than that and lived to tell the tale
. You'll soon know once you've cracked them open if they have gone off.
BTW apparently we are not meant to keep eggs in the fridge. My Granddad always said this and it was on the news the other day. Problem is I don't where I'd store them safely otherwise!

I have heard this before and there seem to be two sides to the argument.Supermarkets (other types of shop are available) clearly don't see the need to refrigerate eggs, hence they are on the shelves rather than in the chiller cabinets.
However, if we don't need to refrigerate them, why do fridge manufacturers put those handy compartments with egg-storage holes in every unit they make??

Also keep tomatoes out of the fridge and apples in the fridge.OzzyR1 said:

Because they're fridge manufacturers, not food scientists. The other advantage of keeping eggs out of the fridge is that they're less likely to crack when you put them in boiling water.
