Cured meat will last for ages (it was cured to last a winter outside of a fridge originally!), as said, give it a sniff and then use it. Don't get hung up on best before dates....

There's a difference between "best before" and "use by" dates. Best before is just that, it's at it's best before that date, but still probably edible some time after. My gravy granules are about a year out of date, but I still use them to boost and thicken my beef gravy and I've never had any issues if you get my drift. Use by is a bit more serious though. I personally wouldn't touch dairy products past their use by date - yoghurts for example. Meat and eggs.... maybe a couple of days if they smell ok. I view it as they have have to cater for the worse case conditions when they set a use by date, so a couple of days shouldn't hurt if you've stored them correctly. However, if in any doubt, bin it.

Whilst that's true of real cured bacon, what's sold as bacon in most places won't last much past its sell by date even kept in the fridge.

FFS.

The use by and sell by dates are part of the great yoopian yoonion red tapey bks. If it smeel OK eat it. If it's got green ould growqing on it, bin it, or scrape it off and cook it and eat it. Cooking is great, it kills things.

yes For the most, but meat - green, smells or white bits - cooking won't kill it frown
