J. Sheekey or Bentleys are two of my favourites when I'm in that part of the world.

Tried it last year - not overly impressed to be honest.

For traditional fish and chips, The Golden Hinde in Marylebone Lane, W1 is very hard to beat IMO.

Not for years! Worked for 6 years for Koch as a Technical Manager. Now working as a consultant for one of the many restaurant/hotel processor/suppliers in the capital. You work(ed) at the 'Gate?

Ha Ha! Guess when I went to work after leaving Koch! Fish! They're nice restaurants, but a bit pricey for what you get imho. What shop(s) did you own/buy for? And the old "bd of Billingsgate" doesn't just work down the market he's also a bookie at the dog tracks in the evening too! (Although I wonder where he is at nights now Walthamstow has gone?)

Had a brother called Simon I remember, owned the cafe after working as a salesman for Sidwell and magrath, Bartons wife was Maggie.

I traded as "Broadway",(has a shop in Tooting Broadway Market ) a stall and a busy shop in Balham, was Ok then, earned ok.Tony Allen had stand there then , like the Mafia , him and Marco before M P W went cosmic and they fell out.
M P W had Harveys , just done the road from me in Wandsworth. Good laugh he was , top geezer.

Depressing to read, so many reasons why this catastrophy has occured.Mis-managment by a succession of morally bankupt politicians from every country with a fishing fleet, from the factory ships that destroy all in thier paths , the overfishing of every species , not least the Heath Govt that sold this countries heritage to the highest bidder, unworkable quotas, I could go on .....and on ...and on.

Overfishing for more than a hundred years of herring , cod, in fact everthing that swims in the sea I believe is the root cause.

A crime .

I worked in a chippie asa boy in Balham called Frankies Plaice , cod and chips 1/6 (seven and a half pence).

I was in Bentleys the week before last, I had high expectations and all were met.

Nice place.

they need to start making it very, very illegal to fish in certain methods, and sadly it will cost jobs in the short term. As such, its a bh of a nettle for politicians to grasp.

As the Grand Banks saga told us, self-regulation is NOT an option. We will strip mine the sea for the sake of one job :/

on a happier side: Brothers fish and chip shop in Norf London and Chris' fish and chip shop in Chiswick for me smile
